DURHAM A big second quarter proved to be the difference
for the Northern Durham Knights in their 66-41 Piedmont Athletic
Conference drubbing of the Person Rockets in girls basketball
action Tuesday night at the Poe Gymtorium.
Last-place Person trailed 19-13 early in the second period
before the home team went on a 21-5 surge to essentially put
the contest on ice, leading 40-18 at the half.
We were down by just six at one point and then they
just blitzed us by playing an aggressive 2-3 zone, said
Person head coach Melinda Goodson, whose Rockets remained
winless in the PAC-6 with an 0-11 mark. I dont
feel too bad about [the loss]. We just needed to score more,
but we didnt turn the ball over a lot tonight, which
was good to see.
Ebonee Taylor drilled three 3-pointers and finished with
14 points, while Nickgail Fuller finished with six and Akira
Sampson five for the Rockets, now 3-17 overall and losers
of 15 of their last 16 games.
The Person girls will try to break back into the win column
when they host Southern Durham on Friday at Rocket Gymnasium.
