The Person junior varsity boys were able to avoid a repeat of their previous two games and held on to the defeat Northern Durham, 66-62, on Tuesday.

Having relinquished a seven-point in the final minutes in their loss to Riverside last Friday, the Rockets were ahead by as many as 14 points in the second half and led 51-44 early in the final period.

They once again gave up the advantage as Northern fought back to even the game at 62-all late. The Knights had a chance take the lead in the final seconds but couldn’t convert on numerous chances from underneath the basket.

As a result, Person was able to score the final four points and escape with the victory.

Nate McBroom’s two free throws with a second showing on the clock sealed it for good.

Tyrone Woods connected for 15 points, while McBroom finished with 14 and Anthony Winbush 10. Jonathan Quick and Mike Blackwell added six points each for the Rockets, who improved to 3-8 in the conference and 8-10 overall.
