The varsity Rockets may have taken their cue from the Person junior varsity boys, who ended their season on a high note with a 74-67 victory over Hillside Friday.

The win gave Person a final 9-12 overall mark and a 4-10 record in the conference.

The Rockets had lost a number of leads this season, ending in defeats.

On Friday, however, it was the other team that couldn’t hold on to the advantage.

Down by a 60-52 score midway through the final quarter, Person fought back and eventually took a 61-60 lead before falling behind again by a 65-62 margin.

Eight unanswered points then catapulted the Rocket to a 70-62 lead and the eventual victory.

Anthony Winbush had a huge game for the Rockets with 22 points, followed by 12-point efforts from Tyrone Woods and Dominique Banks. Mike Blackwell also finished in double figures with 10.

Nate McBroom went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final seconds to help secure the victory.

Person trailed 44-39 after three periods.
