DURHAM The Person track and field teams suffered defeats
to Northern Durham on Wednesday in a Piedmont Athletic Conference
meet at Northern High School.
The boys were beaten soundly by the Knights,116-29, while
the girls team was bested by an 89-51 margin.
The losses dropped both Rocket teams to 0-3 on the season.
For the Person boys, Trey Thomas ran an 11.3 in the 100-meter
dash to win that event. Mike Williams scored a first in the
high jump with an effort of six feet.
Brittany Burton and Jelisa Oakley had productive days for
the Person girls.
Burton won the 100 with a time of 12.7 and took first in
the high jump with a leap of 4-8. Ebonee Taylor placed second
in the long jump and Oakley took third in the 100.
Oakley won the 200 with a 26.6 second time, followed by Taylors
26.7 effort. Oakley was also victorious in the long jump with
a 14-3 effort.
Other Rockets to place were: Jasmine Clay (second place,
shot put), Alesha Barnette (second, 300 hurdles; third 100
hurdles), Kameesha Williams (third, 400 meters), Corinna Leist
(second, 800 meters), Destiny Poteat (second, 300 hurdles),
and Nikita Thaxton (second, discus).
The Person 4x100 relay team of Taylor, Poteat, Oakley and
Burton won, and the 4x200 team of Taylor Krank, Talaya Smith,
Oakley and Taylor triumphed as well.
The Person teams travel to take on Oxford Webb on Monday
and return home for a conference meet with Southern Durham
on Wednesday.
