DURHAM After scoring four times in their previous
game, the Person Rockets reverted back to their offensive
struggles and lost a 3-0 Piedmont Athletic Conference decision
to the Northern Durham Knights Monday evening in girls
soccer action at Northern High School.
The loss left the Rockets at 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference
play. Person has a contest at Southern Durham today.
Head coach Doug McNeill said his team struggled to get much
offense going overall but that it did manage to attack the
Northern end with some success.
We had several shots on goal and nearly scored on one
play. We did have some good attacks at their goal, he
said. Our defense played tough. We started the game
using a five-player defense. Were coming along.
Mondays game was a significant improvement for the
Rockets defensively, at least in terms of conference play
that is. They had allowed eight goals in each of the previous
two PAC-6 games.
Carter Tuck was the player who came close to netting one
for the Rockets on Monday, as her attempt made it to the goal
crease but didnt go in. Chelsea Vaughn also made a nice
crossing pass but was unable to connect with a teammate on
the play.
Correction
In Saturdays paper, the article
on last Thursdays girls soccer game between Person
High School and Roxboro Community School credited two of Persons
goals to the wrong player. The teams first and fourth
goals were scored by Karmen Wilkerson, not Christina Wheeler
and Tori Whitfield as was reported.
