DURHAM — The Person boys’ tennis team was defeated, 9-0, by the Jordan Falcons Monday at the Jordan High School courts.

The loss dropped the Rockets 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the PAC-6.

The Rockets’ No. 3 player B.J. Gooch gave his opponent a battle before falling short by a 6-3, 6-3 count. Byron Atkinson and Ray Echevarria also played well in the singles contests, according to coach Mike Barrett.

Person’s top two players Corey Bowes and Michael Tompkins had their work cut out for them against their two highly ranked opponents from Jordan.

“It really made it tough on them,” said Barrett. “Every team we’ve played in the conference so far has had at least two really strong players.”

The Person tandem of John Lea and Dustin Davis performed the best of Person’s doubles teams, losing by an 8-2 margin.

Next up for the Rockets is a conference date at Hillside this afternoon, and a match at Chapel Hill Thursday.
