CREEDMOOR An eight-run explosion in the third inning
propelled the Person Rockets to an 11-2 spanking of the South
Granville Vikings in varsity baseball action Friday at South
Granville.
The Rockets were coming off a hard-fought 4-3 PAC-6 loss
at Northern Durham Thursday evening, and bounced back with
a vengeance.
Facing SGs top three pitchers (Nash Blackley, who started,
Josh Darroach, and Pratt Maynard), Person scored twice in
the second inning and got to Darroach for eight runs in the
third.
The Viking righthander did not retire a batter in his stint,
as Maynard came in and hurled the final five innings.
Chris Morgan (one earned run, three hits, four strikeouts,
two walks) started and threw four innings for his second win
of the season. Dylan Dickens (four hits, four strikeouts)
relieved him and worked the last three frames to earn the
save.
Person collected 12 hits and was led by Ricky Crabtree with
a double, a home run and three runs driven in. Cody Ellis
added three hits and two RBI, and Marc Davis was 2-for-3 with
a double and two RBI.
Other contributors to the offense were Jeremy Peed (2-for-4,
RBI), Zack Oakley (2-for-4), and Stephen Wright (1-for-4).
The Rockets improved to 7-2 overall with the win.
