The Person girls track team earned its second win of
the season with a 66-29 rain-shortened victory over Southern
Durham Wednesday at Person High School.
Brittany Burton scored a first in the high jump, and Destiny
Poteat (300 hurdles), and Erica Johnson (1600) had individual
firsts as well.
Other Rockets to place individually were: Jasmine Clay (second
place, shot put), Nikita Thaxton (third in shot, second in
discus), Poteat (second, 100 hurdles), Alesha Barnette (third
in 100 hurdles, second in 300 hurdles), Burton (second, 100),
Jelisa Oakley (third in 100 meters, second in long jump),
Corinna Leist (second, 1600), Elizabeth Short (third, 1600),
Kameesha Williams (third, 400 meters), Ebonee Taylor (third,
long jump).
Results from field events in Mondays 99-22 win over
Webb were: Clay, Thaxton, and Charnelle Faulkner first,
second and third in the shot put; Thaxton, Clay, and Faulkner
first, second, and third in the discus; and Oakley
and Taylor first and second in the long jump.
Taylor took first in the triple jump, and Burton finished
first and Poteat third in the high jump.
The girls are now 2-3 on the season.
The boys team lost to Southern Durham by an 82-32 rain-shortened
score on Wednesday.
Trey Thomas won the 100 meters in a time of 11.25, and Mike
Williams was top man in the high jump with an effort of 6-2.
Other Person competitors to place were: James Thorpe (third
place, 110 hurdles), Zach Dawkins (third, 1600), Torie Torain
(second, 400), Russ Holler (third, 400), Devon Smith (third,
300 hurdles), and Walter Majors (third in long jump, triple
jump, and high jump).
Results for Rockets who placed outside of first in Mondays
73-71 loss to Oxford Webb were as follows:
Trey Thomas was second in the 100 meters, while James Thorpe
took second in the 110 hurdles.
Other finishers for Person were: Torain (third place, 400),
Chavon Burton (second, 200), Nick Jackson (third, 200), Quinton
Williams (second, long jump), Majors (first in high jump,
second in triple jump), Donte Cameron (third in shot put and
discus),, Termain Scoggins (second in shot), and Tony Godwin
(third, 300 hurdles).
The Person teams compete at Riverside on Wednesday.
