ROUGEMONT Roxboros Matt Lofton, who made his
mark in local racing at Orange County Speedway, returns to
the three-eighths mile oval track this Saturday to compete
in the United Auto Racing Association (UARA) Strutmasters
Late Model race.
Lofton was last years runner-up and Rookie of the Year
in the OCS Late Model Division and was points champion
in the Limited Sportsman Division in 2006.
This season, Lofton is also competing in Hooters Pro Cup
and Busch East Series races, along with a few UARA events.
Saturdays 150-lap contest is part of a five-race schedule,
which will include two races in the local Grand Stock and
Pure Stock divisions and two Southern Ground Pounders 25-lap
events.
Other UARA drivers to watch on Saturday are teenager Jake
Crum, who is currently second in the points standings.
Hes placed second in the seasons first two races,
and lost out to B.J. Mackey in the last UARA race back on
April 12.
Brandon McReynolds, son of FOX NASCAR analyst Larry McReynolds,
is scheduled to make his first start at OCS as well. McReynolds
finished 10th at the April 12 event.
In the local divisions, the Late Model and Limited Sportsman
will not compete on Saturday, but the Grand Stocks will hold
a 35-lap race, and the Pure Stocks will go at it for 20 laps.
Eddie Capps won the season-opening GS race back on April
12 by dominating the entire way and lapping all but second-place
driver Cory Purnell. Just six racers competed in the April
12 contest.
Last years GS champion Michael Hatley was not in the
field for the season-opener.
Joey Throckmorton emerged victorious in the first Pure Stock
race on April 12, beating out Casey Pope in the final laps.
Saturdays racing begins at 4 p.m.
All four local divisions will be back in action in the Coca-Cola
355, which takes place on May 17.
