Rougemont man arrested on
drug-related charges

Deputies with the Person County Sheriff’s Department arrested Charlie Elbert Jay Jr., 25, of 1567 Peed Rd. in Rougemont Saturday on a trio of drug-related charges.

Jay was reportedly arrested after he attempted to flee a license checkpoint at the intersection of Oxford Road and Mt. Harmony Church Road. He is alleged to have a thrown a large amount of marijuana from his vehicle before being taken into custody at the intersection of Mt. Harmony Church Road and Johnnie Jones Road. Deputies reportedly recovered 117.5 grams of marijuana, which was allegedly thrown from Jay’s vehicle.

Jay was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the sale and delivery of marijuana and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jay was held under a $20,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Person County District Court on Dec. 4.

John Calvin Tapp Jr., 18, of 130 Park St., Apt. C was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Friday on a host of charges related to recent break-ins in the county.

Tapp was charged with six felony counts of conspiracy, five felony counts of breaking and entering, four felony counts of larceny and one felony count of attempted breaking and entering.

The incidents that led to Tapp’s arrest reportedly took place on Oct. 12.

Tapp was held under a $20,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Dec. 4.
