The Person County Board of Education will face what appears
to be a light agenda when it meets in regular session next
week.
There are only two items on the action agenda for the open
session portion of the Jan. 10 meeting and two items on the
discussion agenda as well.
Items needing action by the board include a proposed revision
to the weeding policy in school system media centers.
Technology Director Ann Fox will address the board to explain
the reasoning behind the proposed revision and ask for board
approval.
Person High School Assistant Principal Harriett Tillett is
also slated to ask for action from the school board regarding
curriculum changes at PHS.
Under discussion items, the school board agenda reflects
a regular finance report from Person County Schools Finance
Director Julie Masten. She delivers a report every other month,
interchanging with Environmental Services Director Larry King,
who addresses the board concerning capital matters every other
month.
Also planned for discussion by the board is the latest School
Crime and Violence report, which was issued by the state Department
of Public Instruction in Raleigh.
The Courier-Times reported on the latest school crime and
violence numbers in December, shortly after the report was
made public.
Person County Schools reported 31 incidents during the 2006-07
school year. That translated to a rate of 5.5 acts per 1,000
students, which was below the state average of 7.77 acts per
1,000 students.
At the beginning of next weeks school board meeting,
during the Pride in Person segment of the agenda,
the school board will recognize Northern Middle School staff
members who played a role in raising over $7,000 to make sure
needy students there would have a merry Christmas.
The Person High varsity volleyball team and coaches, who
have brought home the state championship for two years in
a row, will also be recognized.
The school board will meet on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 6:30
p.m. in the board of education board room, located on the
bottom floor of the Person County Office Building, 304 South
Morgan Street in Roxboro.
