Roxboro City Council will hear a request for a crosswalk
and caution sign near the intersection of Carver Drive and
Ridge Road during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday,
March 18, at 9 a.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
The meeting is being held at 9 a.m. on March 18 in conjunction
with Local Government Day.
The request for the crosswalk and caution sign surfaced after
a vehicle struck a 15-year-old student at Person High School
last month as the student attempted to cross Carver Drive
on foot.
Person High School Principal Margaret Bradsher said that
she would introduce the request at the March 18 city council
meeting but that a PHS student would make the actual presentation.
It came as a concern from a student after the child
got hit [last month], Bradsher explained. The
student will do the presentation.
Just before 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 5, a student walking across
Carver Drive was injured when struck by a car that was eastbound
on Carver Drive. Roxboro police filed no charges in the accident,
explaining that the driver of the car had the right of way
and was traveling within the posted speed limit when the student
crossed in the path of the vehicle.
