One stop voting numbers have picked up since last Friday afternoon
at two locations in Roxboro, but activity has been sluggish
at a new Timberlake early voting site during its first two
days of operation.
One stop voting began Thursday at both the Person County
Board of Elections Office at 331 S. Morgan St. and the Person
County Public Library at 319 S. Main St.
At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, 362 ballots had
been cast at the two sites since balloting began last week.
Person County Elections Director Brenda Whitlow said that
205 one stop ballots had been cast at the library and an additional
157 had been cast at the board of elections headquarters.
Those numbers were more than double the number of ballots
cast last Thursday and through mid-afternoon Friday when a
total of 172 ballots had been cast at the two sites.
One stop voting continues each Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Friday, May 2, and from 8:30
a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.
This year, for the first time, elections officials opened
a third one stop voting site at the Timberlake Volunteer Fire
Department at 350 Ashley Ave. in Timberlake. It opened Monday.
As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, however, a mere 30 ballots had been
cast at that site, which has varied hours of operation throughout
the one stop voting period.
One stop voting in Timberlake runs from 8:30 a.m. until 5
p.m. on April 21-22, 24 and 26-30. The hours shift to 11 a.m.
until 7:30 p.m on April 23, 25 and May 1-2. The Timberlake
site, however, will not be open for early voting on Saturday,
May 3.
Personians who have not previously registered to vote can
register and cast ballots at the same time during the one
stop voting period. Same day registration is not allowed on
Election Day, however.
