Elma R. Clayton
DURHAM The funeral for Elma Ruth Clayton, 87, formerly of
3004 Independence Ave., Durham, who died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008
at Erwin Garden Nursing Home, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today,
Jan. 26 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Timberlake.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Clayton was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Bernice Moody of Durham; a sister, Bertha
M. Goodwin of Patterson, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home.
Pattie F. Coleman
ALTON, Va. The funeral for Pattie Ann Fergus Coleman, 88,
of 1105 Coleman Dr., Alton, Va., who died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008
at Danville Regional Medical Center, was conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday,
Jan. 24, in New Ephesus Baptist Church in Semora by the Rev. Michael
Ferrell. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born June 22, 1919, in Person County, Mrs. Coleman was the daughter
of the late Phillip Fergus and Rosa Faulkner Fergus. Her late husband
was Esless Coleman and her late son was Joseph Fergus.
Surviving are eight sons, Mason, Allen, Linwood, Roland, Phillip,
Robert and James Coleman, all of Alton and Cecil Coleman of Round
Hill, Va.; four daughters, Fairy Pointer of Alton, Florence Coleman
of the home, Aileen Martin of Axton, Va. and Brenda Goode of Charlottesville,
Va.; four brothers, Robert Fergus of South Boston, Va., Bennie Fergus
of Red Bank, N.J., Shank Fergus of Newark, N.J., and Willie Fergus
of Alton; six sisters, Catherine Cunningham of Alton, Mamie Thomas
of Newark N.J., Viola Brandon of Philadelphia, Pa., Ossie Martin
of Columbia, S.C., Mary Wilson of Durham and Alice Mitchell of Roxboro;
three grandsons, Damon Coleman, Stevie Coleman and Stacy Coleman;
and 24 great-grandchildren.?
David W. Rogers
A memorial service for David W. Rogers, 82, of Roxboro, who died
Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Saturday,
Jan. 26, in Roxboro Baptist Church by Dr. Dupre Sanders.
Born on May 29, 1925, Mr. Rogers was a native of Greensboro, the
son of the late A.A. and Mattie Straughan Rogers.
He earned degrees from Campbell College, Wake Forest College and
Duke University.
A U. S. Air Force veteran, he served during World War II.
A career educator, Dr. Rogers was a high school math and English
teacher, principal in Caswell County, associate professor of education
at Furman University, director of education in the city school system
of Lumberton and associate superintendent of schools in Burke County
and then for Person County Schools.
He was a member of the Mars Hill College Board of Advisors and
the Phi Delta Kappa professional fraternity. He was active in organizing
Western Piedmont Technical College in Burke County as well as serving
as an organizing member and trustee of Piedmont Community College
in Person County.
He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
He was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church and the Person County
Retired School Personnel.
In 2004, the Dr. David W. Rogers Educational Scholarship was named
in his honor.
Surviving are his wife, Christine Slaughter Rogers; three children,
Joan McLaughlin and David W. Rogers Jr., both of Person County and
Gloria Alderman and husband, John, of Pittsboro; and five grandchildren.

Jessicaleah K. White
A memorial service for Jessicaleah Koster White, 26, of Roxboro,
who died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center
from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, in Westwood Baptist Church by the Rev.
Gerald Hodges.
Another memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb.
2, in First Assembly of God Church in York, Pa.
Born Oct. 23, 1981, Mrs. White was the daughter of Lynn A. Koster
of York, Pa. and the late Charles E. Witmyer. Her late maternal
grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Koster.
She graduated from Central York High School and was a graduate
of York Technical Institute where she earned her degree in office
systems and business administration.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Christopher
S. White of Culpepper, Va.; her godmother, Lillian M. Velez of York;
a sister, Lori Witmyer of Lancaster, Pa.; and a brother, Andy Witmyer
of Altoona, Pa.
