Ruby G. Cates
The funeral for Ruby Lavene Gooch Cates, 69, of 2101 Mt. Harmony
Church Rd., Rougemont, who died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Person
Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, March 1, in
Community Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Ferguson. Burial will
be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Durham County, Mrs. Cates was the daughter of the late
Charles and Mildred Kelbaugh Gooch.
She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Theodore R. Cates; three daughters,
Susan L. Cates of Burlington, Diana Blalock and Melissa Harris,
both of Rougemont; a sister, Merita New of Roxboro; six grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Collier, Paul Martin, Wayne Martin, Andrew
Long, Robert Woody, and Joshua Howard.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Cloria E. Clayton
The funeral for Cloria Estelle Clayton, 88, of Meadowwood Court,
who died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Person Memorial Hospital, will
be conducted at noon today, March 1, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church
by the Rev. Jesse Timberlake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Morris Clayton of Yanceyville and a sister,
Effie Jackson of Roxboro.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.

John W. Elmore
LEASBURG The funeral for John Willis Elmore, 78, of 515
Elmore Rd., Leasburg, who died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Person
Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2,
in the Word of Faith Apostolic Church by the Rev. Breedlove. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Born Jan. 1, 1930 in Caswell County, Mr. Elmore was the son of
the late John and Sallie Ann Stewart Elmore.
He attended the public schools of Caswell County.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Royster Elmore; a daughter Barbara
Poteat and husband, Carl, of Milton; four sons, Larry Elmore and
wife, Linda, of Temple Hill, Md., James Elmore and wife, Brenda,
of Yanceyville, Melvin Elmore of Danville, Va. and Acie Stewart
of Durham; two sisters, Arlease Winstead of Baltimore, Md. and Rosetta
Hatchett of Leasburg; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today, March 1, at the Plenty
Funeral Home Chapel in Semora.
Irene S. Pulliam
The funeral for Irene Shotwell Pulliam, 89, of 85 J.W. Pulliam
Rd., who died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Person Memorial Hospital,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Brooks &
White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Pulliam. Burial will
be in Surl Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Pulliam was a native of Person County, the daughter of the
late Robert and Maude Tuck Shotwell. Her late husband was James
William Pulliam, and her late son was Robert (Henry) Pulliam.
She was a Primitive Baptist.
Surviving are her children, Doris Whitfield of Oxford, Eddie Pulliam
of Roxboro, Shirley Long of Roxboro and Joe Pulliam of Timberlake;
two sisters, Christine Solomon of Hurdle Mills and Millie Ford of
Clarksville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Pulliam, Russell Pulliam, Scott Long,
Douglas Pulliam, Jeremy Pulliam, Mark Harrison, James Pulliam, Leroy
Whitfield and Josh Pulliam.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, March 1, at
the funeral home and at other times at the home.
