Carlton H. Bowen

The funeral for Carlton Hugh Bowen, 70, of 2195 Hurdle Mills Rd., who died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the home of his daughter, was conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, March 7, in the Brooks and White Funeral Home chapel by his grandson, the Rev. Jason Suitt, the Rev. Ken Childers and the Rev. Marvin Suitt. Burial was in the Person Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Bowen was a native of Person County, the son of the late Eugene and Bessie Morris Bowen Oliver. His late wife was Mary Ellen Marie Blalock Bowen.

He was retired from Eaton Corp. after 31 years of service.

He attended Gateway Baptist Church.

Surviving are three children, Cathy Suitt of Lynchburg, Va., Roger Bowen and Susan Bowen, both of Roxboro; his step-father, Henry Oliver of Martinsville, Va.; three brothers, Jimmy Bowen of Roxboro, Eugene Bowen Jr. of Burlington and Mike Bowen of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister, Shirley Bowen of Martinsville, Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Greg Oakley, Bryan Clayton, Tim Blalock, Canaan Suitt, Gregory Besaw and Phillip Blalock.

Manfred Clayton, Wallace Blalock, Bernice Blalock and Jimmy Walker were honorary pallbearers.

Erma J. Bowen

DURHAM — A memorial service for Erma James Bowen, 76, formerly of Lakeview Road, who died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Rose Manor Health Care Center in Durham, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Lonnie Graves. A private burial will be held in the Berry’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Bowen was the daughter of the late Johnnie Thomas and Minnie Gregory James. Her late sister was Rosa J. Crabtree.

She was retired from IBM and attended Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Dale McBride of Rougemont; two brothers, Jesse James of Durham and Billy James of Bahama; a sister, Annie Wyvonia Slaughter of Durham.

Visitation will follow the service.

Ruth M. Wilkins

MONROE — The funeral for Ruth McDaniel Wilkins, 86, of Monroe, who died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Carolinas Medical Center-Union, was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in Oakland Baptist Church by the Rev. Claude Connell and Dr. Dan Phipps. Burial was in the Lakeland Memorial Park.

Born Oct. 28, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wilkins was the daughter of the late William Henderson and Sally Leonard McDaniel.

She was retired from Central Soya Corp.

A member of Oakland Baptist Church , she was in the Fellowship Sunday School class.

She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and cooking.

Surviving are her husband, William Howard Wilkins; three sons, Bill Wilkins of Raleigh, Bob Wilkins and wife, Dian, of Kannapolis, and David Wilkins and wife, Jeanette of Kennesaw, Ga.; two daughters, Judy Evans and husband, Frank, of Roxboro and Patsy Johnson and husband, Blair, of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, James F. McDaniel of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Wright of Pfafftown, Doris Gaither of Winston-Salem; and Loraine Blackwood of Cooleemee; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
