Joe S. Cunningham
The funeral for Joe Sterling Cunningham, 88, of Semora, who died
Friday, April 18, 2008, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, will be
conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 23, in Zion Level Baptist Church
by the Rev. Willie O. Glenn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born Dec. 25, 1920, in Person County, Mr. Cunningham was the son
of the late Alex and Annie Cunningham.
He attended the public schools of Person County.
He was a member of Zion Level Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Cunningham; two daughters, Mamie
Whitlock of the home and Elaine Wimbush of Danville, Va.; two sons,
Leroy and Earl Cunningham, both of the home; and several grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Plenty Funeral Home of Semora.
Margaret P. Eidson
HURDLE MILLS Margaret Pearce Eidson, 97, formerly of 45
Berry-Pearce Rd. and Cambridge Hills Assisted Living, died Saturday,
April 19, 2008. She was a native of Person County and a daughter
of James Obadiah Pearce and Ida Timberlake Pearce. She married John
Malcolm Eidson in 1935 and they lived together for forty-five years.
To this union was born one daughter Barbara Ann Eidson and one son
John Malcolm Eidson, Jr. Her husband and son preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eidson is survived by her daughter Barbara Eidson Long and
husband Lacy of Hurdle Mills; two granddaughters Suzanne Long Vaughn
and husband Michael and great-granddaughter Rachel Vaughn of Cary
and Marcie Long Landrum and husband Barry and great-granddaughter
Megan Landrum of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Holton Pearce
(Dot), of Hickory Grove, SC and Mrs. Clifton Pearce (Peggy) of Columbia,
SC; her special cousin, Jugrette Whitt and husband Jack, of Timberlake;
a number of nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.
Mrs. Eidson was the oldest member of Mt. Zion United Methodist
Church, having been a member for over eighty-six years. She was
a member of the Satterfield Sunday School Class and the United Methodist
Women. She retired from Duke University Medical Center. As long
as she was able, she was active in her church and civic affairs.
She was an avid bridge player and an avid Duke basketball and Atlanta
Braves baseball fan.
Mrs. Eidson was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Pearce Mitchell,
of Ft. Worth, TX, six brothers, Roy Pearce of Durham, Irving Pearce
of Darlington, SC, Gilbert Pearce, of Roxboro, Clifton Pearce, of
Columbia, SC, Staff Sergeant Hubert Pearce, of Ft. Bragg and Holton
Pearce of Hickory Grove, SC.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist
Church by the Rev. Edgar DeJesus and Rev. Norma Walters. Burial
will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be George Foushee, Ronald Foushee, Dan Hawkins,
Frank Whitfield, Larry Dowell and Vernon Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers
will be Mike Laws, Dan Whitfield, Reade Foushee, John Foushee, T.B.
Grinstead and Everett Willman.
Visitation will be held 7-8:30PM Monday at the Brooks & White
Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Barbara and Lacy
Long, 12091 Hurdle Mills Rd., Hurdle Mills.

Hattie E. Garland
BLANCH The funeral for Hattie Elliott Garland, 47, of Blanch,
who died Friday, April 18, 2008, at her home, will be conducted
at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in New Haven Baptist Church by the
Rev. Nemis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born July 2, 1960, in Caswell County, Mrs. Garland was the daughter
of Marie Elliott of Blanch, who survives, and the late Tays Elliott.
She attended the public schools of Caswell County and was a member
of New Haven Baptist Church of Milton.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Percell Garland;
a daughter, Ronda Blackwell and husband, Bryan, of Greensboro; a
son, Ronnie Elliott of the home; a sister, Vivian Thomas of Milton;
and a brother, Felix Elliott of Ringgold, Va.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today, April 23, at Plenty
Funeral Home of Semora.
Carolyn E. Martin
A graveside funeral for Carolyn Elliott Martin, 38, of 95 Allie
Clay Rd, who died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Providence
Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Ronnie Matthews.
Mrs. Martin was a native of Granville County, the daughter of Lewis
Earl and Ann Elliott and Jerrica Comer Elliott.
She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church
in Henderson.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband of five years,
Edward Todd Martin; a daughter, Bobbie Boyd of Greensboro; a son,
Joshua Asycue of Reidsville; a sister, Evelyn Smith of White Level;
two brothers, Lee Elliott Jr. and Kirk Elliott, both of Henderson;
and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24,
at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Michael A. Puett
The funeral for Michael Alan Puett, 47, of 301 N. Morgan St., who
died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill,
was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the Strickland Funeral
Home chapel by the Rev. John Gaither. Burial was in the Day Family
Cemetery.
Mr. Puett was a native of Person County, the son of Dallas Rabon
and Polly Day Puett, who survive.
He was a self-employed flooring contractor and was a member of
North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of 17 years,
Brenda Way Puett; four children, Jennifer P. Wolf and husband, Chris,
of Graham, Adam Puett and wife, Leighann, Jamie McGehee Dixon and
husband, Clint, Michael McGehee and wife, Kristy, all of Roxboro;
two brothers, David Puett and Andy Puett, both of Roxboro; and five
grandchildren, Ariel Dixon, Brooke Puett, Olivia Puett, Matthew
Wolf and Brendan McGehee.
Pallbearers were Victor Alonso, Chad Dunn, Jesus Figueroa, David
Gentry, Joey Smith and Fidel Velazquez.
Robert Way was an honorary pallbearer.

Brenda Wright
The funeral for Brenda Wright, 56, of 1501 Mountain Rd., who died
Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital following
an extended illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April
24, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson and
the Rev. Jesse Timberlake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Wright was a childrens nutritionist with Helena Elementary
School.
She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are five sisters, her twin, Linda Wright of the home,
Nannie Wright Lee of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Sylvia Wright of the home,
Mary Ellen Lester and Minnie W. Jay, both of Roxboro.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, April 23, at Cunningham
& Nelson Funeral Home.
