Helen O. Ameen
The funeral for Helen Outlaw Ameen, 82, of 115 Virginia Ave., who
died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be
conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in Roxboro Baptist Church
by Dr. DuPre Sanders. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Ameen was the daughter of the late Lonnie Murdice and Hallie
Minnie Tanner Outlaw. Her late daughter was Teresa Leonard.
She was a retired beautician and a member of Roxboro Baptist Church,
where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her husband, Toufielk Ameen; a son, Tim Ameen and
wife, Lorrie, of Clinton; her son-in-law, Kenneth Leonard, of Conway,
S.C.; seven grandchildren, David Ameen, Ethan Ameen, Stephen Ameen,
Bryan Twisdale, Casey Flom, Alexandera Leonard and Neil Leonard;
and a great-grandchild, Evan Twisdale.
Vistation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today, May 7, at Brooks
& White Funeral Home.

Mussette O. Barnette
A memorial service for Mussette OBriant Barnette, 88, of
220 Barnette Ave., who died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Person Memorial
Hospital, was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, in the Brooks &
White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Phillip Robert Byrum, the
Rev. T.R. Miller and the Rev. James I. Warren. Burial was in the
Person Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Barnette, was the daughter of the late
Riley Martin and Betty Anne Perkins OBriant. Her late husband
was Haywood Stuart Barnette. Her late daughter was Anne Stuart Barnette
Byrum and her late grandchild was Elizabeth (Beth) Anne Barnette.
She retired from First Union Bank in 1985, after 30 years of service.
For more than 60 years, she was a member of Long Memorial United
Methodist Church f where she taught Sunday school for 15 years and
was a former member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are a son, Haywood Stuart Barnette Jr. of Roxboro; a
son-in-law, the Rev. Phillip Robert Byrum of Wilson; four grandchildren,
Dr. Robert Stuart Byrum, John Keith Byrum, Haywood Stuart Barnette
III, and Patrice B. Taylor; and four great-grandchildren.

Carl G. Ferrell
A memorial service for Carl Glenn Ferrell, 80, of 910 Harris Mill
Rd., Rougemont, who died Sunday, May 4, 2008, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. today, May 7, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel.
Mr. Ferrell was a native of Durham County, the son of the late
Jesse Albert and Grace Parrish Ferrell. His late wife of 50 years
was Frances Harris Ferrell. His late grandchildren were Jessica
Leigh Tipppett and Kerry David Ferrell, and his late great-grandson
was Hayden Bradley Clews.
He was a paint and wallpaper contractor for approximately 60 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater.
He attained the rank of Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class with the Seabees.
He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
He also served at hut manager for American Legion Post No. 7 in
Durham for several years in the 1970s.
Surviving are six children, Teresa Ferrell Shearer and husband,
Leon, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Glenda Ferrell Johnson of Framingham,
Mass., Carl Glenn Ferrell II and wife, Betty Lou, of Walhalla, S.C.,
Michael David Ferrell and wife, Brenda, of Franklinton, Timothy
Mark Ferrell and wife, Louise, of Pineville, Jane Ferrell Tippett
and husband, Brad, of the home; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour before the
service and at other times at the home.

Robert F. Jackson
Robert Freeman Bobby Jackson, 72, of 56 Montague Ave.,
died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born in Person County, Mr. Jackson was the son of the late Herbert
F. and Ora Reaves Jackson. Mr. Jackson retired from Eaton Corp.
after over 25 years and was a member of Montwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Mary B. Dolly
Jackson; three sons, Larry Jackson, Bob Jackson and Ken Jackson
and wife, Charlotte L., all of Roxboro; one brother, Fred S. Jackson
and wife, Bobbie, of Durham; two grandchildren, Courtney Jackson
and Jared Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Montwood Baptist
Church by the Rev. Carroll Brackett and the Rev. Raymond Wooten.
Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will
be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Brooks & White Funeral
Home.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Day, Randy Turner, John Riley, Clyde
Kerley, Lawrence Martin, and Mike D. Shotwell. Honorary pallbearers
will be Stanley Carver, Wade Clayton, Gene Russell and members of
the Montwood Baptist Church Adult Mens Sunday School Class.

John McDowell Jr.
The funeral for John McDowell Jr., 53, 314 N. Charles St., who
died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at his home, will be conducted at 11
a.m. Friday, May 9, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel.
Burial will be in the Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Durham, Mr. McDowell was the son of the late John and Ruby
Love Gregory McDowell.
He was the former owner and operator of Convenience Corner and
Pizza Hearth and was formerly employed by Auto Zone.
He was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Deborah McDowell; two children, Tonya Ann
McDonald of Creedmoor and John McDowell III, of the home; four siblings,
Joyce Childers of Durham, Ronnie McDowell of South Boston, Va.,
Tricia Davis of Roxboro and Keith McDowell of South Boston, Va.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at
the funeral home.

Wesley L. Morton
SCOTTVILLE, Mich. The funeral for Wesley L. Morton, 12,
of Scottville, Mich., who died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Devos Children's
Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday,
May 9, in the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington by Pastor Damon
Beaver. Burial will be in the Center Riverton Township Cemetery.
Master Morton was born on Oct. 21, 1995 in Grand Rapids, the son
of Garry and Donna (Morris) Morton.
Wesley loved riding in his golf cart, playing the piano, and riding
on his fathers Harley with him.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his grandparents, Dot
and Buck Oakley of Roxboro and Shirley and LeMoyne Morton of Ludington;
aunts and uncles, Marsha Morris of Roxboro, Larry and Sheryl Morton
of Scottville and Shari and Jerry Masse Ludington.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the
funeral home and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of
service.

Benton Woods
BUFFALO, N.Y. The funeral for Benton Woods of Buffalo ,
N. Y., who died Monday, April 28, 2008, following an extended illness,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 7, in Blue Wing Baptist Church
in Granville County by the Rev. J.E. Wade. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Mr. Woods was a native of Granville County.
He was a member of Blue Wing Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Olympia Woods; a step-daughter, Antionette
Alarmru of Buffalo; a brother, Kenneth Woods of Roxboro; a foster
sister, Dorothy Clark of Danville, Va.; and a grandchild.
