John C, Clayton

The funeral for John Carr Clayton, 77, of North Main Street, who died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Roxboro Nursing Center, was conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, May 12, in Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Clayton was a native of Person County, the son of the late Arthur Eugene and Lennie Stephens Clayton. His late wife of 46 years was Burnette Roberson Clayton. His late sister was Mary Frances Clayton.

Retired from Eaton Corp., he was a member of Theresa Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 36 years and a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years.

Surviving are a son, Doug Clayton and wife, Lois, of McCleansville; a brother, Eugene Clayton of Pine Level; a granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth Clayton of McCleansville; and his companion, Odell Briggs of Roxboro.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Bowes, Carroll Clayton, Chris Clayton, David Clayton, Linwood Clayton, Tim Gilliam, Ira Jones and Chris Yarboro.

Theresa Baptist Church deacons and members of the Men’s Sunday School Class No. 4 served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Theresa Baptist Church Building Fund, 3919 Chub Lake Rd., Roxboro, NC 27574.
