Mary L. Barnette

The funeral for Mary Lou Barnette, 67, of 500 Old N.C. 57, Semora, who died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at her home following an extended illness, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, in Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Elder Robert McClary. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Barnette was a native of Person County.

She was a member of Word of Faith Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, James A. Barnette; a daughter, Deborah Speight; three sons, Jeffrey Barnette, Fred Barnette and Hayward Peterson; four sisters, Mamie Timberlake, Emma Enoch, Trudy Findley and Cora Lee Latham; three brothers, James Findley, the Rev. John Findley and Ira Findley; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home.

James D. Clayton

A graveside funeral for James Danny Clayton, 61, of 108 Burch Ave., who died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Durham Regional Hospital, was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, in Person Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Edgar DeJesus.

Mr. Clayton was a native of Person County.

He was the owner of Clayton Cleaning Service and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his aunt and uncle, Leamon and Rosa Poole of Roxboro; and a cousin, Ronald Poole of Sumter, S.C.

Marion A. Dixon

HILLSBOROUGH — The funeral for Marion Anthony (Tony) Dixon, 68, of 3222 Ode Turner Rd., Hillsborough, who died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, May 17, in Walker's Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

He was a veteran of the National Guard and employed by Chapel Hill Transit, where he had 11 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Ann Walker Dixon; two daughters, Debra Ann Snipes and Joyce Marie Briggs; a son, James Lewis Dixon; a brother, John Lewis Dixon Jr.; a sister, Linda Jean Clayton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Phyllis B. Gaddy

The funeral for Phyllis Barnett Gaddy, 51, of 312 S. Foushee St., who died Monday, May 5, 2008, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Brud Perry.

Mrs. Gaddy was the daughter was Charlie Barnett.

She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are her stepmother, Tine Barnette; her husband, Horace William Gaddy; a daughter, Marquita Louise Gaddy; a son, William Nathaniel Gaddy, a sister, Sandra Bowman; a brother, Charlie Baarnett Jr; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, May 17, at Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Goldie M. Harris

The funeral for Goldie Mae Harris, 90, of 880 C.C. Andrews Rd., Timberlake, who died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at her home, was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in Red Mountain Baptist Church by the Rev. David Pryor and Dr. Tommy Jordan. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Harris was a native of Vance County, the daughter of the late Deborah Meadows and Julia Bowen. Her late husband was Elzzy Harris. Her late son was Charlie C. Harris.

She was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Paulette Blaylock of Timberlake; a sister, Myrtle Mills of Roxboro; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Huff, Ira McCarson, Taylor Chambers, Arthur Howerton, William (Pee Wee) Harris and Tom Chambers.

Conner Chambers was an honorary pallbearer.

Nellie M. Nelson

The funeral for Nellie Mae Nelson, 77, of 425 Melton Rd., who died Friday morning, May 16, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital Extended Care will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in Triple Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Buddy Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Halifax County, Va., Ms. Nelson was the daughter of the late Monroe and Mandy Stone Nelson. Her late sister was Pauline Nelson Holt, who she lived with most of her life.

Surviving are three brothers, Johnny Nelson of South Boston, Va., Jesse Nelson and Emmitt Nelson, both of Semora; two sisters, Odell Nelson and Janie Nelson Presley, both of Semora; two nieces, Lynn Carter and Betty Holt both of Roxboro; and a nephew, Andrew Holt of the home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Carter, Moses Clay, Randy Spencer, Tracy Spencer, Tommy Tyson and Daryl Fuquay.

Visitation will be today, May 17, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Peggy A. Smith

GRAHAM — The funeral for Peggy Aldridge Smith, 80, of 705 Sycamore Rd., Graham, who died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Hospice Home in Burlington following an extended illness, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, in the First Baptist Church of Graham by Dr. David Kolb. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Caswell County, the daughter of the late Lewis B. and Viola Stanfield Aldridge. Her late grandchild was Lisa Grinstead Massey, her late sisters were Gladiola (Pete) Williams, Hazel Stainfield and Mary Scruggs and her late brothers were Sylvanus, L.B. Jr., Reid, Glenn and Gene (Pud) Aldridge.

She was retired from Wachovia Bank and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert Lee (Herb) Smith; a daughter, Dina Gayle Grinstead and husband, Charlie, of Hurdle Mills; four sons, Stephen Smith and wife, Ione, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Lynn Smith of the home, Rodney Smith and wife, Doreen, of Charlotte and Eric Smith of Coral Springs, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, May 17, at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham and at other times at the home.
