James C. Blalock

James Clarence Blalock, 84, of 1131 N. Main St., died Monday, June 2, 2008, at Durham Regional Hospital. Born in Person County, Mr. Blalock was the son of the late Richard C. and Agnes Brooks Blalock and husband of the late Nell Turner Blalock. Mr. Blalock owned and operated Blalock’s Supermart for over 27 years.

Mr. Blalock is survived by his daughter Gail Blalock Fitzgerald and husband Rob, of Roxboro; two grandchildren, Will Fitzgerald and wife Jennifer, of Duncansville, PA and Emily Fitzgerald, of Statesville; three sisters, Pauline Gentry, of Roxboro, Janie Tillett, of Timberlake, and Christine Redecker, of Raleigh.

A memorial service will be held 1PM Wednesday at Long Memorial United Church by the Rev. T.R. Miller. There will be a private burial. The family will receive friends following the service.

Lottie M. Cameron

The funeral for Lottie Mae Cameron, 83, formerly of 141 Colonial Estates Rd., who died Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the Brian Center in Yanceyville, was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in New Hope Person Baptist Church by the Rev. W.L. Richardson. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ms. Cameron was a native of Person County.

She was a member of New Hope Person Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Alice Holloway and Darlene Bradsher, both of Roxboro; a son, James Cameron of Sutherlin, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Norma G. Clayton

The funeral for Norma Gray Clayton, 72, of 1223 N. Main St., who died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at her home, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Pulliam. Burial was in the Burchwood Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Clayton was the daughter of the late Lewis Pervis Gray and Ila Allen Gray Dunn. Her late husbands were Bobby Samuel Clayton and Thomas Obediah Yancey.

She was retired after serving 45 years as assistant clerk of Superior Court for Person County.

She received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from the Governor of North Carolina.

She was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Angela C. and Brent Suddreth and Paula C. and Steve Pulliam, all of Roxboro and Samuel and Dolly Clayton of Sanford; five grandchildren, Timothy Suddreth, Kaysi Carver, Catherine Clayton, Abigail Clayton and Franklin Pulliam.

Robert D. Cole

HALIFAX, Va. — The funeral for Robert Douglas Cole, 63, 2242 Love Shop Rd., Halifax, Va., who died Friday, May 30, 2008 at his home, was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, in the Brooks Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jeaux Simmons and the Rev. Jim Kopco. Burial was in the Cole Family Cemetery.

Mr. Cole was a native of Halifax County, Va. the son of the late Ramon and Irene Talley Cole. His late sister was Shirley Owen.

He was an automotive detail technician with Crowell Motor Co.

He was a member of the Epps Mill Hunting Club.

He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Paschall Cole; two daughters, Dana Mayo and husband, Bruce, and Kristy LaFluer, all of Halifax; a son, R.D. Cole Jr. and wife, Dori of Halifax; a sister, Linda Saunders of Roxboro; and five grandchildren, Kayla Cole, Korbin LaFluer, Lucy Settle, Paten Cole and Ramon Cole.

Coralee B. Matthews

The funeral for Coralee Blalock Matthews, 73, of 454 Mt. Harmony Church Rd., Timberlake, who died Friday, May 30, 2008 at her home, was conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by the Rev. G. Barry Chambers. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Matthews was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Roby Elbert and Viola Eakes Blalock. Her late husbands were Marion Harper and Joseph Matthews. Her late brother was Roby Blalock Jr.

She was retired from Eaton Corp. after 29 years of service

She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with ceramics and operated a ceramic business for many years.

Mrs. Matthews was an avid traveler, and she working with her flowers and in her garden.

Surviving are a son, Keith Harper and wife, Maynell, of Roxboro; a stepson, Tim Matthews of Roxboro; a step daughter, Jo Frances Rice and husband, Jeff, of Roxboro; three sisters, Gertrude Wilson, Vionette Tapp, both of Roxboro and Hilda Williams of Hampton, Va.; three brothers, William Blalock of Sumall, Miss., Rexford Blalock and F.D. Blalock, both of Roxboro; and three grandchildren, Tay Harper, Aaron Harper and Maggie Harper, all of Roxboro.

Pallbearers were Clyde Elliott, Bob Kirk, James Mangum, Jimmy Thomas, Lawrence “Pop” Walker, Bruce Whitfield.
