Donna W. Alley

The funeral for Donna Wilson Alley, 61, of 318 Reade Dr., who died Monday, June 9, 2008, at her home, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, June 11, in Roxboro Baptist Church by Dr. DuPre Sanders. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Granville County, Mrs. Alley was the daughter of Ernestine Falkner Wilson of Roxboro, who survives, and the late Sherman Edwin Wilson. Her late husband was Felix Eugene Alley III.

She graduated from Person Senior High School in 1964 and was the homecoming queen that year. She then graduated from Campbell University in 1969.

She taught school for 38 years in Lenoir, Durham and Person counties.

She enjoyed attending the Roxboro Athletic Club and teaching the spinning classes.

She was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Felix Eugene Alley IV and wife, Dawn, and Michael Wilson Alley and wife, Karen, all of Roxboro; a brother, Sherman E. Wilson Jr. of Henderson; a sister, Tina Wilson Adams of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Gary Alley, Randy Alley, Felix Eugene Alley V and Steven Alley.

Pallbearers will be Keith Bolick, Jay Bolick, Steven Bixby, Steven McCracken, Dale Wilson and Horace Falkner.

Betty M. Arendall

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — The funeral for Betty Moore Arendall, 60, of 2041 Philpott Rd., South Boston, Va., who died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at her home, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, June 11, in the Freedom Worship Center by the Rev. Ricky Whitlow. Burial will be in the Liberty Christian Church cemetery.

Mrs. Arendall was a native of Halifax County, Va., the daughter of the late Thomas L. Medley and Mary Calhoun.

She was a retired convenience store manager and was a member of the Freedom Worship Center.

Surviving are her husband, William Frank Arendall; four daughters, Mary Elizabeth Ferguson Land and husband, Lawrence Henry, of Roxboro, Shirley A. Moore of Durham, Belinda R. Lawson and husband, Matthew, of Chase City, Va. and Tamatha M. Arendall of South Boston; a son, James C. Ferguson Jr. and wife, Cameron, of Roxboro; five brothers, Burton Price Jr. of Dansville, N.Y., Steven Price, Brian Calhoun, Chris Calhoun and Elmer Calhoun III, all of Connecticut; two sisters, Lois Gail Rose of Leesburg, Fla. and Mary Jo Calhoun of New Hampshire; his grandmother, Josephine Greenwood of Glendale, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Victor Martin Carver

GWYNN, Va. — Victor Martin Carver, age 77, died June 6, 2008 at McGuire VA Medical Center, Richmond. He served his country in the Air Force, a role he served with distinction as Master Sergeant and was retired from Phillip Morris. Vic was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1115, Hillsville and the American Legion Post 83, Hudgins. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family. He loved flowers and all things of nature. Vic was known as the “fix it guy” and was always working on broken projects. Above all his family, especially his grandchildren were his passion and he was very kind and generous to them.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janie P. Carver; daughters, Sandra McClellan and husband Perry and Connie Hoefer and husband Bob to whom Vic was like a dad. His grandchildren, Nicole Helbig, Robert Hoefer and Brian McClellan; one sister, Alma Yarboro and one brother, Larry Carver and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Vic’s Life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the family’s home, 80 Triangle Road, Gwynn, Virginia. Dress casual as that would be Vic’s wish. Interment will be private.

Michael E. Cash

A graveside funeral for Michael Dale Ellis Cash, 43, of 425 Al Gray Rd., Timberlake, who died Monday, June 10, 2008 at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, in the Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mr. Cash was a native of Orange County, the son of Alphonso (Kitty) and Annie Joyce Jacobs Ellis, and is adoptive parents were Tommy and Mary Ruth Cash. His late sister was Diane Cash Tripp.

He was employed with Home Depot and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

He was an avid Carolina fan.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Cash; a daughter, Katie Anne Cash; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Robert Wilkerson of Hurdle Mills; four brothers, Jackie W. Ellis and Johnny C. Ellis, both of Timberlake, Dennis R. Ellis of Bahama and Larry K. Cash of Timberlake; and a stepsister, Sonya Medlin of Durham.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, June 11, at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Larry Korn

Laurence William Korn, age 62, died peaceably at 6 AM on Sunday, June 8th at his home in Rougemont with his wife of 23 years, Susan Korn, and their friend Jeannnie MacAdams at his side.

He will be missed by his friends for his passion for cooking, history — particularly military history — and space research. He was an avid reader, connoisseur of fine wine and food, and he loved the outdoors.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 10 AM at St. Matthew’s Espiscopal Church at 210 St. Mary’s Road, Hillsborough, NC with the Rector, Brooks Graebner, officiating. Friends are invited to join us for a reception at the church immediately following the interment in the churchyard.

Peggy B. Norris

A graveside funeral for Peggy Boggs Norris, 58, of 575 Moss Creek Dr., who died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Person Memorial Hospital, was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the Norris Family cemetery in Hurdle Mills.

Mrs. Norris was a native of Alamance County, the daughter of Grace Jacquelyn Stout Boggs of Saxapahaw, who survives, and the late Gilmer Barrett Boggs.

She was a devoted mother.

Surviving in addition to her mother are three children, Debbie Louise Norris and Cecil Ray Norris, both of Roxboro and Charles Barrett Norris of Hurdle Mills; a brother Robert (Rocky) Barrett Boggs of Morrisville; three sisters, Brenda Ellington of Haw River, Dianne Gwinn of Mebane and Pamela (Pam) Boggs of High Point.

Virginia A. Rose

The funeral for Virginia Alford Rose, 86, of 233 Alleghany Dr., who died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at her home, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by Elder Calvin Harward and Elder Kenneth Hopkins. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery.

Born in Wayne County, Mrs. Rose was the daughter of the late William Jasper and Mary Elizabeth Tyner Alford.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, James H. Rose; two sons, Gary A. Rose and wife, Joella, and Joel E. Rose, all of Roxboro; and two grandchildren, Blaine G. Rose and April Danielle Rose.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandson and nephews.

Elton M. Stewart

The funeral for Elton M. Stewart, 48, of 60 Cherokee Ln., who died Friday, June 6, 2008, was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, June 9, in Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman Talley. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A member of the Sappony Tribe, Mr. Stewart was the son of the late Ernest (Page) and Docia Epps Stewart. His late brothers were Ernie and Kimberly Stewart and his late sister was Teresa Gail Stewart.

He was vice president of Triple S Landscaping LLC. He was formerly employed with the N.C. Department of Transportation Bridge Maintenance Department in Oxford.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn H. Stewart of the home, two daughters, Stephanie Stewart and Brittney Stewart, both of the home; a brother, Delton Stewart of Roxboro; and a sister, Dorothy Stewart Crowe of Roxboro.

Larry H. Talley

CEDAR GROVE — The funeral for Larry H. (Super) Talley, 57, of 9400 Art Rd., Cedar Grove, who died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at his home, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, in Lea Bethel Baptist Church in Prospect Hill. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Talley was a native of Durham County, the son of the late Gilbert Harry and Gladys McCullock Talley.

He was a retired tobacco farmer and a Baptist.

His loved his beagles, rabbit hunting, fishing and farming.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Irby Talley; a daughter, Shannon-Talley Bradsher and husband, Wayne, of Cedar Grove; five sisters, Elizabeth Walters, Janice Breeze, Geraldine Clayton, Sarah Mulholland and Brenda Cook; and a granddaughter Carson Bradsher.

Ira T. Watson

The funeral for Ira Thomas Watson, 70, of 2995 Bowmantown Rd., who died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at UNC Hospitals, was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Pulliam. Burial was in the Person Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson was a native of Mecklenburg, Va, the son of the late Edward Dallas and Helen Newcomb Watson. His late wife was Nancy Lee Watson.

He served in the National Guard for approximately 15 years.

He was retired from Collins & Aikman Corporation.

Surviving are five children, Edward Watson of Graham, David Davis, Lisa Davis and Janice Harris, all of Roxboro and Renee Watson of the home; a brother, Al Watson of Lincoln, Maine; a half brother, Roy Watson of Chapel Hill; three sisters, Betty Barts, Ellen Jones and Mary Jane Phillips, all of Roxboro; and 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild

Pallbearers were David Davis, Jimmy Davis, Donnie Loftis, Devin James, Thomas Jacovitch, Marshall Jones and Keith Wilson.
