Orville T. Craycraft
The funeral for Orville Thomas Craycraft, 62, of 318 Saplin Branch
Rd., Timberlake, who died Friday, June 27, 2008 at his home, was
conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the Brooks & White Funeral
Home chapel by the Rev. Gerald Hodges.
Born in Carter County, Okla., Mr. Craycraft was the son of the
late Jewell Thomas and Annabelle Vinita England Craycraft.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving during the Vietnam
Era and later retired from the Pepsi-Cola Co. after 10 years of
service.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Cole Craycraft; five children, Charles
Dennis Humphries and wife, Bernice, of Halifax, Va., David Michael
Hill and wife, Sandra, of Durham, Elisha Marie Hicks and husband,
Daniel, of Roswell, N. Mex., Kimberly Ann Craycraft of Albuquerque,
N. Mex. and John Thomas Craycraft of Roxboro; a brother, John Allen
Craycraft of Forest Lake, Calif.; five sisters, Emma Lou Segrest
of Tampa, Fla., Karen C. Murray of St. George, S.C., Susan Felder
of Reevesville, S.C., Sandra Arnold of Albuquerque and Janna Pitchford
of Houston, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Timmeka McNair
ALTON, Va. The funeral for Timmeka McNair, 17, of Alton,
who died Thursday, June 26, 2008 due to injuries sustained in an
automobile accident, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 2,
in the Prayer of Faith Ministries in Milton by Pastor Brenda Smith.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born on Dec. 12, 1990, Ms. McNair was the daughter of Patricia
McNair of Raleigh and Timothy McNair of Burlington, who survive.
She attended the public schools of Person County and Halifax County.
Surviving in addition to her parents are four brothers, Thomas
Rogers of Durham, Tevin McNair of Roxboro, Timothy McNair Jr. of
Burlington and Jamel McNair of Burlington; her paternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Freddie McNair of Roxboro; her maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Riley Paylor of Roxboro; and her foster mother, Edith
Tremell of Alton.

Ramona L. Painter
The funeral for Ramona Lloyd Painter, 61, of 206 W.O. Painter Rd.,
Timberlake, who died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at her home following
an extended illness, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, inRed
Mountain Baptist Church by the Rev. Dave Pryor and the Rev. Joe
Glenn. Burial was in the Painter Family Cemetery.
Born in Louisa County, Va., Mrs. Painter was the daughter of the
late Robert and Lillie Lamb Lloyd. Her late brother was Otis Claude
Lloyd.
She was employed with AW North Carolina.
She was a Baptist.
Surviving are her husband, Danny Painter; a daughter, Tammy McGuire
Harris and husband, Jason, of Danville, Va.; three step-children,
Danny Wayne Dixon and wife, Tina, Denny Dwayne Long and wife, Paula,
Patricia Danielle Clayton and husband, Mike, all of Roxboro; three
sisters, Sylvia Jean Poore of Richmond, Va., Patsy Wade of Crozet,
Va. and Anna Bryant of Waynesboro, Va.; seven grandchildren, Morgan
Elizabeth Harris, Jacob Steven Harris, Quentin Chase Long, Amber
Michelle Roach, Brittany Nicole Roach, Tori Danielle Clayton and
Austin Thomas Dixon.
Pallbearers were Steve McFarland, Denny Long, Joey Painter, Bobby
Painter, Danny Dixon and George Woody.
Scott Bell, Gary Grinstead, Thomas Ellis, Perry Watson and Freddy
Wilkerson were honorary pallbearers.

Rachel Winn Short
ATHENS, Ga. A memorial service for Rachel Winn Short, 78,
of Athens, Ga., who died Monday, June 30, 2008, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, in First Presbyterian Church in Athens
by Dr. John Kipp. Burial will be private.
Born on April 29, 1930, Mrs. Short was the only child of the late
James Harden Winn and Nellie Harris Winn.
She lived in Athens until 1947, when she was graduated from Athens
High School. In 1949, she was graduated from Stephens College in
Columbia, Mo.
She worked for Eastern Airlines from 1949 to 1958 in reservations,
as a stewardess and the ticket counter at the Piedmont Hotel.
She and Harold Short were married in 1956, and they lived in Atlanta,
Chattanooga, Montgomery, Charlotte and back in Atlanta for 25 years
while he was with the Pontiac Division of General Motors.
In 1999, they moved to Athens, where Mrs. Short was an active member
of First Presbyterian Church and a volunteer for St. Marys
Auxiliary and Botanical Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Harold Short; their three sons, Bill
Short and wife, Sally, of Columbia, S.C., Dr. Jim Short and wife,
Joan Hodges, of Roxboro and Stan Short and wife, Julie, of Atlanta;
and six grandchildren, Clay Short and Emma Short of Columbia and
Winn Short, Harris Short, Elizabeth Short and Annie Short, all of
Roxboro.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, July 2, at Bernstein
Funeral Home in Athens.

Wayne Watkins
The funeral for Wayne Watkins, 57, who died Friday, June 27, 2008
at the Oxford Manor Nursing Center, will be conducted at noon today,
July 2, in New Ephesus Baptist Church in Semora by the Rev. Lloyd
Oliver.
Mr. Watkins was the son of Estellia Crowder Watkins of Semora.
He was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Mable Watkins
of the home; three brothers, James Watkins of Cedar Grove, Walter
Watkins of Roxboro and Thaddeus Watkins of Danville, Va.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service
and at other times at the home of his mother, 1639 Ephesus Church
Rd., Semora.
Arrangements are by Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Home.
Annie L. White
GOLDSBORO The funeral for Annie Ladd White, 81, of 876 Hood
Swamp Rd., Goldsboro, who died Saturday, June 28, 2008, was conducted
at 7 p.m. Monday, June 30, in the Seymour Funeral Home chapel by
the Rev. Jerry Mitchell. Burial was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1,
in the Wayne Memorial Park.
Born on July 12, 1926, in Person County, Mrs. White was the daughter
of the late Rufus Jasper and Hattie Thompson Ladd. Her late husband
was James Alfred White. Her late brothers and sisters were Mandy
Dixon, Virginia Latta, Everette Ladd, Robert Ladd, Pap Ladd, E.T.
Ladd, Thurman Ladd and James Ladd.
She was a homemaker and a member of Adamsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters; Debra Ann Justus and Donna White Lee
and husband, Mike, all of Goldsboro; a son, James Michael White
and wife, Cindy, of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Estelle Ladd Carver
of Sweptsonville; six grandchildren; Sheree` Nicole Justus, David
Allen Lee, Crystal Lee Sutton, Emilee White McLaughlin and Alyssa
Hayes White; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron David Lee, Landon
Noah Sutton, Hannah Rae Lee and Kittrell James McLaughlin.
