Melvin J. Barksdale
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The funeral for Melvin Junior Barksdale,
35, who died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at his home, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. today, July 5, in the Jeffress Funeral Home chapel by
the Rev. Bruce Featherstone. Burial will be in the Cross Road Baptist
Church Cemetery.
Mr. Barksdale was a native of Halifax County, the son of Rosa Barksdale
Walton, who survives, and the late Edward Walton.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Joseph Carr
of Clover, Va. and Timothy Walton of South Boston, Va., four step-sisters,
Linda S. Jennings and Vonnie Jones, both of South Boston, Mary Humphrey
of Roxboro and Betty Furman of Alton, Va.; four step-brothers, retired
Sgt. Joseph A. Walton of Hopewell, Va., Master Sgt. Charlie C. Walton
of Charleston, S.C., George D. Walton of Danville, Va. and Bobbie
A. Walton of Baltimore, Md.; and his maternal grandmother, Annie
B. Chaney of South Boston.
Elbert H. Duncan Jr.
CREEDMOOR The funeral for Elbert H. Duncan Jr., 80, of 3134
Old Route 75, Stem, who died Friday, June 28, 2006 in an automobile
accident, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 5, in Eakes Funeral
Home chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will
be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Person County, the son of the late Elbert
H. and Bertha Harris Duncan. His late wife was Janie Hicks Duncan.
He was retired from Murdoch Center and was a Baptist.
Surviving are two sons, Garry S. Duncan of Pensacola, Fla. and
Kenneth J. Duncan of Kettering, Ohio; two sisters, Margie Clayton
and Desmonia Duncan, both of Roxboro; three brothers, Jesse Duncan,
Dolian Duncan and Sonny Duncan, all of Roxboro; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. today, July 5, at
the funeral home and at other times the home.
Justin L. Everrett
A memorial service for Justin L. Everrett, 44, of 540 N. Ridge
Circle, Roxboro, who accidentally drowned Saturday, June 3, 2006,
in Roscoe, N. Y. while on a fishing trip, will be conducted at 2
p.m. Sunday, July 9, in Leasburg United Methodist Church by Laura
Stern.
Mr. Everrett was a native of Redwood City, Calif., the son of Evelyn
Gerth of Arizona, who survives, and the late Gerald F. Gerth.
He was self-employed and had been working in New Jersey for a time
after having been unable to find work closer to home.
According to a report in The Star-Ledger of Newark, N. J., Mr.
Everrett, on June 3, was on a fishing trip with four friends to
a popular trout fishing location in Roscoe, N. Y. where the Beaverkill
and Willow Weemoc rivers join. He was attempting to cross a stretch
of water when he slipped on a rock and was unable to regain his
footing in the strong current that filled his chest waders with
water and pulled him beneath the surface. Authorities told the newspaper
that two of Mr. Everretts friends waded into the water to
try to help him, but the current proved too strong and they had
to retreat.
Later in the day, Mr. Everrett was pronounced dead at Catskill
Regional Medical Center in Harris, N. Y.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 15 years, Karen
Everrett of Roxboro, two daughters, Ashley Webb and Allison Everrett,
both of Roxboro; and two sisters, Stephanie Rehm of Arizona and
Jerilyn Davis of New Mexico.
Visitation will be at the home from 4-6 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to trust funds established at Wachovia Bank
in the names of his daughters, Ashley Webb and Allison Everrett.
Thomas H. Masten
The memorial service for Thomas (Tom) Hughes Masten, 64, of 200
Westover Dr., who died Monday, July 31, 2006, in Person Memorial
Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in Roxboro
Baptist Church by Dr. DuPre Sanders and the Rev. Lewis Wall.
Mr. Masten was a native of Person County, the son of the late H.
Edgar Masten and Katherine Hatchett Masten.
He was a property inspector for various insurance companies.
He was a National Guard veteran.
He was past president and a lifetime member of the Roxboro Jaycees.
He also played the drums for the Cozzy Combo and with The Red Stocking
Revue.
He was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Dunevant Masten; a son, Thomas (Tommy)
Hughes Masten Jr. and wife Julie Hawkins Masten, of Roxboro; a daughter,
Leslie Carol Masten of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Herbert Masten
of Toccoa, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Cole Masten and Anna Carol
Masten.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, July 5, at Brooks
& White Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Black, Buff Burnette, Phillip
Hall, George Jackson, Albert Pulliam, Ken Dunevant and Jeremy Clayton.

Mildred W. Rimmer
The funeral for Mildred Louise Wilson Rimmer, 79, of Roxboro, who
died Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Roxboro Nursing Center, will be
conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 5, in Clement Baptist Church by
the Rev. Ben Gault. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rimmer was a native of Person County, the daughter of the
late Newby and Ruby Blalock Wilson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Clement Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dallas Rimmer; a son, Jerry Rimmer of
Semora; two daughters, Pennie R. Parker of Hurdle Mills and Brenda
R. Lewis of Roxboro; a sister, Dorothy W. Coates; 10 grandchildren;
and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Wilson, Bobby Rimmer, Austin Rimmer,
Jasper Parker, Gerald Parker, Braint Rimmer, Scott Terry and Kent
Rimmer.
Memorials may be made to the Clement Baptist Church Building Fund,

Buck T. Street
The funeral for Buck Theodore Street, 95, of 1050 Buck Street Rd.,
who died Friday, June 30, 2006, following an extended illness, was
conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, in Elijah Grove Baptist Church
by Dr. Alfred M. Faulkner. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Street was a native of Person County.
He was a member of Elijah Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Odelia Brown of Roxboro, Arcenia
McGoogin and Nancy Ann Street, both of Newark, N.J.; and two sisters,
Frelia Fields and Esther Street Lawson, both of Oxford.
Lisa K. Wilson
HOLLY RIDGE A memorial service for Lisa Kay Wilson, 45,
of Holly Ridge, who died Sunday, June 30, 2006 in Wilmington, was
conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, in Jones Funeral Home chapel
in Jacksonville.
Miss Wilson was the daughter of Nellie Tuck Wilson of Roxboro and
Curley D. Wilson of Burlington, who survive.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her step-mother, Shirley
Wilson of Burlington; and a brother, Marvin Wilson of Roxboro.
