Glennie Barnette
YANCEYVILLE — The funeral for Glennie Barnette, 53, of Yanceyville, who died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Jefferson Rest Home in Yanceyville, was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, in the Church of God in Roxboro by Bishop Glady Cameron.
Mr. Barnette was the son of Mable Torain of Roxboro, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Frances Barnette of Roxboro; and a brother, James Barnette of Leasburg.
Arrangements were by Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Home.
James (Jim) Bidinger
GREEN SPRING, W.Va. — The funeral for James (Jim) Harold Bidinger, 91, of Green Spring, W. Va., who died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at his residence, was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday. July 5, in the Shaffer Funeral Home chapel in Romney, W. Va. by Pastor Ron Winter. Burial was in the Springfield Hill Cemetery in Springfield, W.Va.
Born April 11, 1917 in Green Spring, Mr. Bidinger was the son of the late Harry R. and Anna J. Pyles Bidinger. His late sister was Edith Bidinger.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II.
He lived in Green Spring all of his life, farming and working in timber and the sawmill.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Ruby P. Crock Bidinger, whom he married Aug. 21, 1937; a son: Harry (Perk) Bidinger of Green Spring; three daughters, Sylvia S. Talbot of Richmond, Utah, Joyce Warneeke of Green Spring and Vicki Berry of Semora; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

George W. Childress Jr.
The funeral for George W. Childress Jr., 64, of 1431 Longhurst St., who died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Norman Talley and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in Halifax County, Va., Mr. Childress was the son of the late George W. and Lucy Young Childress and stepson of the late Mary Hobgood Childress.
He was a long haul truck driver for over 30 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Epps Childress; three children, Penny Childress of Roxboro, Sandra Childress Seamons and husband, Red, of Roxboro and Tony Lee Rollinson and wife, Karen, of Henderson; and four grandchildren, Jacob Seamons, Joshua Seamons, Brittany Neathery and Lucas Rollinson.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter Sandra Seamons, 313 Clayton Ave., Roxboro.

Mary Anna C. Denton
WENDELL — A graveside funeral for Mary Anna Clayton Denton, 67, of 1212 Ridge Haven Dr., Wendell, who died Friday, July 4, 2008 at her home, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Wendell by the Rev. Phil Brantley.
Born April 19, 1941 in Person County, Mrs. Denton was the daughter of the late Marvin Earl and Sallie Hicks Clayton. Her late sister was Betsy Forrest.
She was a bookkeeper, retired with North Hills Inc., and she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Zollie R. (Jack) Denton; a daughter Shari Lynn Wood and husband, Sammy, of Knightdale; a stepdaughter, Teresa Clayton and husband, T. G., of Belhaven; a stepson, Rick Denton and his wife, Leaster, of Wendell; a granddaughter, Savannah Grace Wood of Knightdale; a stepgrandson, Trenton Clayton of Belhaven; and two stepgranddaughters, Tara Clayton of Belhaven and Cierra Denton of Wendell.

Clara P. Lester
The funeral for Clara Perry Lester, 58, of 984 Jones Lester Rd., who died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile, will be conducted at noon Sunday, July 12, in Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor by Pastor Brenda Timberlake. Burial will be in the Lester Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Lester was the daughter of Gwendolyn Williams Perry of Oxford, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Joseph E. Lester Jr.; five children, Angela D. Lester, Ginger T. Parker, Jonitta L. Davis, Joseph Lester III and Frankie P. Lester, all of Roxboro; three brothers, John W. Perry, Raymond W. Perry and Perry A. Williams, all of Roxboro; two sisters, Bertha P. Graves and Drucilla Johnson, both of Roxboro; and 16 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Home and Saturday, July 12, one hour prior to the service at the Christian Faith Center.
Hazel S. Link
ALTON, Va. — The funeral for Hazel Sarah Shotwell Link, 94, of 6142 Cluster Springs Rd., Alton, Va., who died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at The Woodview, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 9, in Alton Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Ball. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born March 28, 1914, in Person County, Mrs. Link was the daughter of the late Robert and Susie Shotwell. Her late husband was Lonnie L. Link, and her late daughter was Wanda Wells McBride.
She was a beautician and a homemaker.
Surviving are a son, Harold Wayne Link and wife, Sue, of Richmond, Va.; five daughters, Hilda Link Barton and husband, Leon, of Powhatan, Va., Rachel Link Elliott and husband, Stover and Lana Link Jackson and husband, Kenneth, all of Alton, Vera Link Chace and husband, Al, of Norfolk, Va. and Connie Link Reaves and husband, Bobby, of Alton; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Yvonne B. Nelson
The funeral for Yvonne Brooks Nelson, 68, of 726 Bethel Hill School Rd., who died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in Bethel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Jason Evans. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of Mildred Groves Brooks of Roxboro and the late Frazier Bill Brooks. Her late brothers were Donald Brooks and Danny Brooks.
Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker and a very active member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Kent Nelson; two children, Kendall Ray Nelson of Durham and Angela Renae N. O’Neal of Roxboro; three brothers, Billy Brooks and Charles Brooks, both of Roxboro and Clarence Brooks of Creedmoor; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, July 9, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Sgt. Earl (Pop) Poole
The funeral for Sgt. Earl D. (Pop) Poole, 45, who died Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, July 9, in Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Clyde Glass. Burial, with full military rites, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Poole was the son of Mamie Winstead Poole of Roxboro.
He was retired from the U.S. Army National Guard in October of 2007 after serving 25 years.
He was a member of Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Surviving are two sisters, Ramona Poole and Christy Royster-Tate, both of Durham; three brothers, Terence Poole and Anthony Poole, both of Roxboro and Master Sgt. Dallas Poole of Cherry Point, and a friend, Charlotte Pettiford of Durham.

Nell L. Wilson
CARRBORO — A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date for Nell Lester Wilson, 83, formerly of Carrboro, who died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Oxford Manor.
Born in Brookneal, Va., Mrs. Wilson was the daughter of the late Henry Otha and Sallie Lambert Lester.
She was a member of Bullock Baptist Church in Bullock.
Surviving are three children, Jim Wilson and wife, Dot, of Chapel Hill, Sam Wilson and wife, Angie, of Hillsborough and Elizabeth Wilson Taylor of Clarksville, Va.; and six grandchildren.
