Marshall Bowman

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — The funeral for Marshall Bowman, 35, of 1006 Wingard Ln., South Boston, Va., who died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Halifax Regional Hospital, will be conducted at noon today, July 12, in Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church by Elder Bernard Wilkins.

Born in Halifax County, Va., Aug. 19, 1972, Mr. Bowman was the the son of Karen Bowman Dunn, who survives, and the late Marshall E. Yancey.

Surviving in addition to his parents, Karen and William Keshaun Dunn, are his wife, Jennifer Majors Bowman; two sons, JaJuan Majors Hill and Jamauri Majors, both of South Boston; three sisters, Dawn Thomas of South Boston and Pamela Bowman and Tia Dunn, both of Roxboro; six brothers, William Ragland Jr. of Durham, Kelvin Ragland of Denver, Colo., Deronta Ragland, DavRick Dunn, Wyllyam Dunn Jr. and TeeRoy Dunn, all of Roxboro; two half-brothers, Deron Traynham and Marshall Traynham; and his grandmothers, Inez Yancey of Buffalo Junction, Va. and Joan Boxley of Alton, Va.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1006 Wingard Ln, Lot No. 2, South Boston.

Bobby L. Jones

BAHAMA — A graveside funeral for Bobby Lee Jones, 57, of 7301 Wiley Mangum Rd., who died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center, was conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 11, in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jesse Timberlake.

Mr. Jones was the son of Betty Jones of Roxboro, who survives.

He was a 1968 graduate of Person County High School and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Gladys R. Jones; a son, Bobby Lee Jones Jr. of Rockville, Md.; three brothers, Bedford Jones of Durham, Curtis W. Jones of Roxboro and Darrell Jones of New Jersey; and three sisters, Olivia Hamlett, Sylvia Ann Jones and Denise Jones, all of Roxboro.

Nancy L. Long

The funeral for Nancy Loraine Long, 79, of 901 Ridge Rd., who died Thursday, July 9, 2008 in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by The Rev. Edgar DeJesus. Burial was in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Long was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late William Daniel and Claire Estelle Long. Her late niece was Nancy L. McElroy.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School, had attended East Carolina University for one year, and had also attended Hardbarger’s Business College. 

She was secretary for Long Memorial United Methodist Church for 22 years.  She had also been employed with Duke University Medical Center. 

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, William Coleman (Billy) Long of Burlington and Richard Ronald Long of Carrboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred G. Stone

The funeral for Mildred Guill Stone, 64, of 47 Solomon Ct., Apt. 6, who died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at her home, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Thompson and the Rev. Thomas G. Holtsclaw. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Stone was the daughter of the late John T. and Kennie Carr Guill.

She was retired from Classic Food Service.

She was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Moose Family Center and the VFW’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her two sons and their wives, Chip and Pam Williams, of Rougemont and Glenn and Sheri Williams, of Hurdle Mills; a brother, James Guill, of Roxboro; two sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Guill Davis of Hillsborough and Mary Alice Guill Braswell of Henderson; two grandchildren, Whitney Williams and Hunter Williams; and an aunt, Bettie Wagner of Roxboro.

Pallbearers will be Lance Chambers, Carl Chambers, Mike Briggs, Clayton Meadows, Brad Suitt, John King, Ronnie Maloney and Kirk Carver. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael and Wanda Tingen, Jean Gibson and John Chambers, Frankie and Jane Gentry, Terry Clayton and Elaine Paul, Stanley Reaves and Bob Fry.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of Chip Williams, 6653 Moore’s Mill Rd., Rougemont.

Bernice F. Wilkerson

The funeral for Bernice Featherston Wilkerson, 90, of 173 Oxford Rd., who died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, July 12, in Shady Hill Baptist Church by Dr. James A. Richmond. Burial will be in the Peace Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are seven sons, John E. Wilkerson Jr., Mens Wilkerson, Ossie Wilkerson, William Lawrence Wilkerson, Marc Wilkerson and Michael Wilkerson, all of Roxboro and Burnell Wilkerson of Raleigh; two brothers, Robert Featherston and John D. Featherston, both of Roxboro; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
