Timothy R. Clayton
The funeral for Timothy Ray Clayton, 46, of 188 Layne Clayton Rd., Hurdle Mills, who died Monday, July 14, 2008, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. William (Bud) Budzinski, the Rev. Hal Dickerson and Dr. Ben Gault. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Oakley Family Cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mr. Clayton was the son of Virginia Clayton of Hurdle Mills, who survives, and the late Robert Irven Clayton. His late brother was Donn Rickey Clayton, and his late sister was Linda Darnell Clayton.
He retired after 20 years from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter, Katherine (Kasey) Margaret Clayton of Cluster Springs, Va.; a brother Charles Irven Clayton of Pensacola, Fla.; and a sister, Layne Clayton of Hurdle Mills.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Daisy S. Howard
The funeral for Daisy Smith Howard, 90, of 615 Ridge Rd., who died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Extended Care Unit of Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 16, in North Roxboro Baptist Church by the Rev. Ben Durand. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Howard was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Franklin and Fannie Broach Smith. Her late husband was John Floyd Howard, and her late son was John Floyd Howard Jr.
She was retired from Eaton Corp., and she was a lifelong member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra H. Day and husband, Billy, of Roxboro; three sisters, Hulda Day and Doris Newell, both of Roxboro and Odell Slaton of Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Donald Davis, Ted Frederick, Chip Almarode, Brian Lutz, Mel Day and Billy Wooton.

Margaret B. Land
A private graveside funeral for Margaret Bowling Land, 79, of 721 Noah Davis Rd., who died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Hospice of Union County, was conducted in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Land was the daughter of the late William and Fayetta Pucci Bowling. Her late brother was Gattis Bowling.
She was retired from Olan Mills Portrait Studios.
Surviving are her husband, Earl Lee Land; two sisters, Novella Painter of Roxboro and Lenora Tuck of Hurdle Mills; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Henry A. Morris
A graveside funeral for Henry Allen Morris, 56, of 615 B Jean St., who died Saturday, July 12, 2008, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 16, in the Virgilina Cemetery by the Pastor Wayne Bowes.
Born in Halifax County, Va., Mr. Morris was the son of Henry B. Morris of Virgilina, Va., who survives, and the late Margaret Welcher Morris.
He was a painter.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving in addition to his father are his stepmother, Estelle Morris of Virgilina; two children, Tommy Morris and wife, Michelle, of Leasburg and Lynda Clayton and husband, Sammy, of Roxboro; two brothers, Cary Morris of Virgilina and Earl Morris of Volens, Va.; two sisters, Carolyn Whitlow of South Boston, Va. and Freida Snead of Maryland; and four grandchildren, Katie Chambers, Duncan Clayton, Nathan Morris and Logan Morris.

John B. Parker
The funeral for John Booker Parker, 80, of 7723 NC 157W, Rougemont, who died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at his home, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 16, in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Stuart Milton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born in Orange County, Mr. Parker was the son of the late John Thomas and Mamie Harrison Parker. His late brothers were Marvin T. Parker and Felix (Bud) Parker.
He was retired from Hunter Douglas.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Wolfe Parker; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Andy Gates and Lora and Brian Cunningham, all of the Caldwell Community; two brothers Bill Parker and Melvin Parker, both of Rougemont; two sisters, Vera Clayton of Roxboro and Lois Evans of Timberlake; and four grandchildren, Adam Gates, Leah Gates, Brendan Cunningham and Evan Cunningham.
Pallbearers will be Randall Parker, Scott Parker, Bruce Clayton, Mick Clayton, Doug Clayton, and Bert Tilley.
Darnell Wolfe, Lonnie Wolfe, Eric Rimmer and Billy Sheppard will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Erwin Y. Riley
The funeral for Erwin York Riley, 71, of Hurdle Mills, who died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Durham Regional Hospital, was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Edgar DeJesus and the Rev. Norma Walters. Burial was in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Born in Durham County, Mr. Riley was the son of the late Clarence Erwin and Margaret York Riley.
Mr. Riley was a retired postmaster, having served the Hurdle Mills Post Office.
He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Katrine Lawrence Riley; a son, Alan York Riley and wife, Linda, of Timberlake; a daughter, Rhonda Riley Howe and husband, Bob, of Winston-Salem; his twin brother, Larry C. Riley and wife, Pam, of Burlington; a sister, Pat R. Crabtree of Hillsborough; and three grandchildren, Leslie King, Lance Riley and Kelsey Riley.
Pallbearers were Richard Cates, Chris Cates, Danny Morris, Lacy Long, Reade Foushee, H.L. Newton and Larry Liles.

Dorlores Z. Sellars
The funeral for Dolores Zipperer Sellars, 50, of 5844 Allensville Rd., who died Saturday, July 12, 2008, was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Haoss Moore. Burial was in Peace Gardens.
Mrs. Sellars was a native of Leesburg, Fla., the daughter Betty Zipperer of Leesburg, who survives, and the late Ewell Zipperer.
She was employed with Wal-Mart and attended Community Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Jennifer Arthur and husband, John, and Amanda Sellars, all of Roxboro; her fiancé Danny Aspinwall; two sisters, Tammy Aspinwall of Sanford and Susan Walker of Jacksonville, Fla; and a grandchild, Alan Arthur.
Pallbearers were Mike Sellars, Robert Stephenson, David Aspinwall, Matt Craven, Stephen Lavenets, Tom Averrette, Randy Walker and Charles Sellars.

Elbert H. Sherman
The funeral for Elbert H. Sherman, 82, of 6087 Hobgood Rd. Rougemont, who died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Treyburn Healthcare, was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Stuart Crank and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will in the church cemetery.
Mr. Sherman was a native of Granville County, the son of the late Herman T. and Nannie Hobgood Sherman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was retired from Certainteed Corp. and was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, W. Bert Sherman and, wife, Linda of Roxboro; a daughter, Nancy S. Jeffrey and husband, Martin, of Rougemont; a sister, Cindy S. Parker of Ashboro; a brother, Thomas Sherman of Oxford; a step-grandson, Kevin Carver of Roxboro; and two step-great-grandsons, Austin and Cody Carver, both of Roxboro.

Elizabeth G. Tate
PROSPECT HILL — The funeral for Elizabeth Gray Tate, 73, of 984 Carver Rd., who died Monday, July 14, 2008, at UNC Hospitals, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, in Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Bottoms and Pastor Bobby Tate. Burial will be in Cooper Cemetery.
Born in Caswell County, Mrs. Tate was the daughter of the late William Monroe and Nannie Sue Knott Gray. Her late husbands were E.A. (Smut) Carver and Robert Tate. Her late brother was Charlie Gray.
Mrs. Tate was retired from A.O. Smith in Mebane and worked at the Hillsborough Wal-Mart as a greeter for over 10 years.
She was a member of Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sylvia Crabtree and husband, Howard, of Prospect Hill and Susan Coble of Pleasant Garden; five brothers, Frank Gray, of Prospect Hill, Willie Gray, Robert Gray and Henry Gray, all of Haw River and James Earl Gray of Danville, Va.; a sister, Louise Pleasant, of Hurdle Mills; four grandchildren, Thomas Crabtree, Marsha Moser, Alex Coble and Katelyn Coble; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Crabtree and Hardin Moser and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Carl Carver, Fred Pleasant, Gary Pleasant, Harvey Gray, Roger McCarter, Dr. Scott Walrond, Kenny Jackson, Will Carver, Donnie Carver and Tommy Carver.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church.
