John K. Elliott
HALIFAX, Va. — The funeral for John Kelley Elliott, 79, of 4231 L. P. Bailey Memorial Hwy., Halifax, Va., who died Monday, July 21, 2008 at The Woodview, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, in Pleasant Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Steven Morningstar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born Jan. 17, 1929, in Halifax County, Va., Mr. Elliott was the son of the late Henry Anderson and Annie Laura Hogan Elliott Hall. His late son was William Henry Elliott. His late siblings were, Tom, Stover and Anderson Elliott and Mary Vaughan.
Surviving are his wife, Henrietta Perkins Elliott; two sons, John Randolph Elliott and wife, Jane, of South Boston, Va. and Charles Danny Elliott of Scottsburg, Va.; three daughters, Gladys Elliott Murray and husband, Herb, of Roxboro, Patsy E. Brewer and husband, Jeff, and Donna Elliott Talley and husband, Randall, all of Oxford; three stepdaughters, Janice Perkins of Nederland, Texas, Lisa Marsh of Halifax, Va. and Susan Stanbery of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Henry Elliott of South Boston; two sisters, Myrion Davis and Janie Keeton, both of Clarksville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, July 23, at Powell Funeral Home and at times at the home.

Chester W. Holbrook
The funeral for Chester Wallice Holbrook, 60, of 938 Ephesus Church Rd., Semora, who died Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, in Ephesus Baptist Church by the Rev. L.L. Watlington. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born in Mecklenburg County, Va., Mr. Holbrook was the son of the late John Wesley and Sallie Nanniebet Wilbourne Holbrook. His late wife was Lula Inez Napier Holbrook and his late brothers were Floyd Holbrook and Wesley Andrew Holbrook.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam era.
He was the owner of a taxicab company and was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie Dawn Holbrook and husband, Phillip Reaves, of Semora; three step-daughters, Valerie J. Whitfield of Rockville, Md., Donna D. Rudder of Hurdle Mills and Elizabeth J. (Deedle) Owen of Semora; three stepsons, Johnny R. Reaves of Semora, Don Terry Reaves of Milton and Kevin J. Reaves of Semora; two brothers, James Holbrook of Caswell County, and Edward (Pinky) Holbrook of Gretna, Va.; two sisters, Sallie Ann Nelson and Daisy Koch, both of Milton; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Oakley, Bruce Holbrook, Allen Napier, James Holbrook Jr., Phil Rowland, James Cunningham and Johnnie Napier.

Margaret G. Laws
A graveside funeral for Margaret Gladys Laws, 91, of 812 N. Main St., who died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, July 23, in the Burchwood Cemetery by the Rev. Lewis Wall and Chris Schelin.
Born in Person County, Miss Laws was the daughter of the late Bunnie I. and Annie King Laws. Her late sister was Geneva L. Owen.
She was retired from Leggett and previously co-owned and operated L&O Restaurant.
She was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Bera L. Oliver; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Patricia E. Vasquez
SHELBY — A memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Houston, Texas for Patricia Elaine Vasquez, 52, of 908 Earl Rd., formerly of Roxboro, who died Friday, July 18, 2008, at her home.
Ms. Vasquez was a native of Atlanta, Ga.
She was a Baptist.
