Randall L. Clayton

The funeral for Randall Lee Clayton, 52, of 393 Burlington Rd., who died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the Person Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mr. Clayton was the son of the late Aubrey Henry and Mary Jane Bray Clayton. 

He was retired from Floyd S. Pike Electric. 

He was an avid Duke basketball fan and a lover of animals.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Riley Clayton; two stepchildren, Laurie Wallace-Atkins and husband, Terry, and Lisa Wallace Dunn and husband, Dwayne, all of Roxboro; a brother, Ronald Clayton and wife, Johnsie, of Roxboro; four sisters, Barbara C. Clayton, Brenda C. Morton, Shirley C. Oakley and Audrey Clayton, all of Roxboro; and three step-grandchildren, Brad Dunn Jr., Tyler Wayne Atkins and Brett Dunn.

Pallbearers were Donald Riley, Rod Clayton, Steve Sparks, Ray Adams, Doug Knott and Neil Clayton.

Don Oakley, Paul Conner, Bradsher Weaver, Terry Painter and Larry Wallace were honorary pallbearers.

Wiley Clayton

The funeral for Wiley Clayton, 71, who died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va., will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Timberlake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Clayton was a native of Person County.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Clayton of Newport News and Wiley Clayton Jr. of Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Alexis LaValle of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four brothers, Donnell Clayton and Melvin Clayton, both of Roxboro, Theodore Clayton of Brooklyn and Mac Lewis Clayton of Raleigh; five sisters, Evanna Davis of Hyattsville, Md., Gladys Conway of Danville, Va., Merita Pigford of Fayetteville, Bonnie Clayton and Kathline Hill, both of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home and at other times at 135 James Clayton Rd., Roxboro.

Nancy M. Crabtree

The funeral for Nancy Ruth Miller Crabtree, 89, of 1010 Holeman Ashley Rd., Timberlake, who died Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Treyburn Rehabilitation Center, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Berry’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Alfred Snipes. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Crabtree was the daughter of the late Garland D. and Ethel Tilley Miller. Her late husband was John James Crabtree. Her late children were Sandra Sessoms and Milton Crabtree. Her late brothers and sisters were Sterling Miller, Filo Miller, Judith Crabtree and Lucy Upchurch.

She was a homemaker and seamstress, having made many wedding dresses.

She was a member of Berry’s Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Jim Crabtree and wife, Margaret, of Durham, Mitchell Crabtree of Timberlake and Ricky Crabtree and wife, Beverly, of Burlington; four daughters, Charlotte C. Cagle and husband, Neal, of Thayer, Mo., Mozelle C. Pulliam and Delaine C. Womack and husband, Roy, all of Durham and Dianna Gale C. Apichino and husband, Rick, of Timberlake; a brother, Clarence Miller of Stone Mountain, Ga.; four sisters, Lida Sparrow of Wilmington, Corine Stinchcomb of Oklahoma City, Okla., Christine Clayton and Betty Roberts, both of Durham; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Evan Crabtree, Pete Crabtree, Gwen Crabtree, Marc Crabtree, Michael Falzone, Andy Cagle, Tony Cayton and Justin Cayton.

Memorials may be made to the Berry’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 9628 Berry Rd., Timberlake, NC 27583.

Nancy L. Culley

The funeral for Nancy L. Culley, 67, of 191 Blackard Rd., who died Monday, July 28, 2008,at Duke University Medical Center, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, in Somerset Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Baynard and the Rev. Troy Rust. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Culley was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Dave and Maude Wrenn Evans. Her late sisters were Mary Evans and Ruth Evans.

She was a member of Somerset Baptist Church where she taught the Sunday school class for  two-and-three-year-olds for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Leroy Culley Jr.; a son, Larry W. Culley of Roxboro; a daughter, Sarah C. Clay of Roxboro; three brothers, Thomas Evans and Lamberth Evans, both of Roxboro and James Evans of Prospect Hill; and five grandchildren, Crystal Dunn, Wayne Culley Jr., Samuel Clay, Suzanne Clay and Sheldon Clay.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, July 30, at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times as the home.

Pallbearers will be J.C. Lee, Vance Long, David Green, John Foushee, Nickie Allen and Payton Humphries.

Mary K. Gardner

Mary Ellen Keuster Gardner, 84, of 55 S. Moore Dr., died July 29, 2008 at her home following an extended illness. Burial was in the Veterans Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Gardner was born March 26, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wis.

She traveled around the world with her husband while he was working for the U.S. Corps of Engineers.

Surviving are her husband, Ross E. Gardner; two sons, Geoffrey J. Gardner and wife, Delores, of Roxboro and James R. Gardner of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Arrangements are by The Cremation Society of North Carolina.
