Mabel F. Gunter

The funeral for Mabel Fox Gunter, 86, of 60 Gwinn Rd., who died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the home of her granddaughter, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 2, in Somerset Baptist Church by the Rev. Troy Rust. Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Gunter was the daughter of the late Ozie Alward and Blanche Moore Fox. Her late husband was Paul Lewis Gunter. 

She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member of Somerset Baptist Church.

Surviving are two children, Tim Gunter of Roxboro and Paulette Gunter Lee of Johnston County; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Richard Fox, Wayne Ridgeway Jr., Billy Kelley, Todd Fox, Nickie Allen and Rusty Ford.

Donald Huff, Wayne Ridgeway, Tommy Fox and Brann Humphries will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Somerset Baptist Church Building Fund, 1835 Old Durham Rd., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Mary W. Knott

The funeral for Mary Wilson Knott, 86, formerly of 65 Olive Branch Rd., who died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at Morton Manor Rest Home, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, in Olive Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman Talley and Dr. Victor Blackwell. Burial will be in Virgilina Cemetery in Virgilina, Va.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Knott was the daughter of the late Tom and Pattie Wilson Poole. Her late husbands were Johnnie Wilson and Luther Knott. Her late brother and sisters were Victor Poole, Hazeline Poole, Estelle Schuman and Blanche Wilson. 

She was retired from Ideal Zipper after 20 years of service.

She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, John Wayne Wilson of South Boston, Va., Glenn Wilson of Clover, Va., Elaine W. Thorton of Roxboro and Deborah W. Roll of Semora; a brother, Leamon Poole of Roxboro; two sisters, Rosa Mae Whitlow of Virgilina, Va. and Jeanie P. Cheeseman of Glendale, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Wilson, Ashley Jones, Stacey Jones, Johnnie Wilson, E.C. Collins, Jared Caviness and Zachary Roll.

Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 2,  at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Deborah, 285 Velvet Rd., Semora.

Queenie B. Pettiford

The funeral for Queenie Bell Pettiford, 81, of 3534 Virgilina Rd., who died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in Youngs Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. McArthur Pettiford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are nine children, Lydia McGhee-Mebane and husband, Bobby, Gordon Bedell Pettiford and wife, Bobby Ann, of Roxboro, William Andrew Pettiford and wife, Mary, of Fayetteville, Bruce Wayne Pettiford of Washington, D.C., Ervin Randolph Pettiford of Alexander, Va., Nancy Faith Leonard of Royal Oaks, Mich., Lawrence Wilburn Pettiford of Oklahoma, Okla., Carl Kent Pettiford and wife, Linda, of Roxboro and Myra Dean Pettiford of the home; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Margaret W. Stephens

The funeral for Margaret Christine Wilkerson Stephens, 71, of 621 Hazel Lawson Rd., who died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at her home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in Shady Hill Baptist Church by Dr. James A. Richmond. Burial will be in the Peace Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda S. McCain and husband, Curtis, of Roxboro; a son James L. Stephens and wife, Melinda, of Roxboro; two sisters, Mary Jenkins and Gerdaline Miller, both of Pennsylvania; a brother, Haywood Wilkerson of Maryland; and nine grandchildren.
