Josephine H. Gentry

The funeral for Josephine Hall Gentry, 87, of 1733 Gentry Ridge Rd., who died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the Roxboro Nursing Center, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Hager and the Rev. Tommy Robertson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Gentry was the daughter of the late Charlie Albert and Addie Josephine Newton Hall. 

She was a homemaker and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Berley B. Gentry; two stepchildren, Lynn Winstead and husband, Art, of Greensboro and Berry Gentry of Durham; three brothers, Dr. Norman Hall of Roxboro, Frank Hall of Florence, S.C. and Keith Hall of Greensboro; four sisters, Veronica Long of Henderson, Katie Sue Perkins, Sarah Pennington and Barbara Jones, all of Roxboro; and three stepgrandchildren, Jeff Winstead, Brian and Lauren Winstead.

Memorials may be made to the Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1890 Mill Creek Rd., Roxboro, NC 27574 or Clement Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Dawn Howard, 1445 Robert Whitfield Rd., Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

  Donna G. Oakley

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The funeral for Donna Gentry Oakley, 56, of the 500 block of Glenwood Dr., Chesapeake, Va., who died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, after a long battle with cancer, was conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the Great Bridge Chapel of the Oman Funeral Home in Chesapeake by The Rev. Jerry Greco. Another service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 6, in Allensville United Methodist Church, in Roxboro, by the Rev. Stuart Crank. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born April 10, 1952, in Person County, Mrs. Oakley was the daughter of Ted Malloy and Helen Hall Gentry of Roxboro, who survive. 

She was employed by Cato Corp. For 13 years she was regional vice president for “It’s Fashion” Stores of Charlotte, serving approximately 80 stores ranging from Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and including Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, David Osborne Oakley; two daughters, Michelle Oakley Lancaster of Moyock, N.C. and Lauren Leigh Oakley of Chesapeake; and two grandchildren, Amber Lynn Hutchings and David Tyler Lancaster.

Pallbearers were Ray Long, Keith  Gentry, Kelly Gentryl Eldrige Coates, Terry Vaughan, Ray Perkins, Johnny Gentry and Kyle Overby.

Memorials may be made to the Donna Gentry Oakley Memorial Fund at any branch of Monarch Bank or to the Allensville UMC, 80 Dirgie Mine Rd., Roxboro, NC 27574.

  Sandra K. Setzer

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date for Sandra Kay Day Setzer, 59, of St. Cloud, Fla., who died of an apparent heart attack while traveling in North Carolina Tuesday, July 22, 2008.

Mrs. Setzer was a native of Person County, the daughter of Addie Mae Day and the late Wright T. Day. Her late sister was Delane Day Wilkerson, and her late brother was Tony M. Day.

She was a graduate of Bethel Hill High School and worked for the Osceola County Florida school system.

She had lived most of her adult life in central Florida.

Her family remembers her for her love of line dancing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Paul R. Setzer; a daughter, Tiffany Setzer Bennett and husband, Brian; a son, Todd Adam Setzer; and three grandchildren, Andrew T. Grabowski, Jordan T. Grabowski and Addison Nicole Bennett.
