Ruby H. Jones

The funeral for Ruby May Humphries Jones, 92, formerly of 418 W. Gordon St., who died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Danville Regional Medical Center, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in Long Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. T.R. Miller. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Charles Graham and Effie Zula Hobgood Humphries. Her late husband was the Rev. Vassar Wilson Jones, and her late daughter was Yolanda Ann Jones.

She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Phillip V. Jones of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Danielle, Gabrielle, Joseph Vassar, Evan, Jordan, Zane, Roxanne, Grace, Moriah and Canaan; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic, Jackson, and Lila Dawn.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, Aug. 9, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Eula E. Russ

DURHAM — A graveside funeral for Eula Esther Russ, 91, formerly of Cherry Grove St.,  Durham, who died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, was conducted at noon Thursday, Aug. 7, in the National Cemetery in Raleigh.

Mrs. Russ was a native of Johnston County, the daughter of the late Earnest Page and Edith V. Hamilton Page. Her late husband was Isham Hemingway Russ.

She had lived in Durham most of her life.

She was retired from Davis Baking Co. and was a hostess at Hardee’s for 10 years. She was a member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church in Nelson.

Surviving are four sons, David Russ of Hillsborough, Robert Russ of Timberlake, Wayne Russ of Stem and Bennie Ray Russ of Durham; three daughters, Shirley Parnell of Roxboro, Ruby Oakley of Durham and Esther Hunt of Stem; a brother, Theo Page of Lakewood, N.J.; a sister, Lorene LeVan of Selma; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley M. Walker

The funeral for Shirley Mooney Walker, 94, of 3970 Oxford Rd., who died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 9, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Barry Chambers and the Rev. Ernest Davis. Burial will be in the Mooney Family Cemetery.

Born in Person County, Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Topin and Mary Thomas Mooney. Her late husband was John Henry Walker. She was also preceded in death by six siblings.

She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. 

She was a very active member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. 

She was also a member of the Extension Club.

Surviving are four children, Jonah Whitt Walker and Nell of Hillsborough, Malcolm and Joy Mangum of Henderson, Rebecca Long of Burlington, and Sherrill and Glenn Duncan of Daniel Island, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Malcolm Mangum Jr., Ronald Long, Robert Long, Charles Walker, Tim Walker, Chun Duncan, Christopher Long and Rocky Murray.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 1655 Mt. Harmony Church Rd., Rougemont, NC 27572 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 165, Roxboro, NC 27573.

Christine C. Woodlief

The funeral for Christine Copley Woodlief, 80, of 6475 Mt. Harmony Church Rd., Rougemont, who died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at her home, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 9, in Flat River Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Bobby Daughtry. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Durham County, Mrs. Woodlief was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Mary Allie Hill Copley. Her late husband was Nelson Thomas Woodlief. 

She was a retired seamstress and a member of Rougemont Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Jerry Thomas Woodlief and wife, Frances Gray, of Graham; a brother, Larry Copley of Hillsborough; a sister, Mary Lee Hawkins of Mebane; two grandchildren, Brian Woodlief and Kristi Woodlief McCown; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Woodlief, Asher McCown and Ava McCown.

Pallbearers will be Tim Hawkins, Eric Hawkins, Glen Copley, Danny Parrish, Anthony Oakley and Ronnie Woodlief. 

Honorary pallbearers will be any attending ministers.
