James H. Bowes
ALTON, Va. The funeral for James Henry Bowes, 69, of 3130
Harmony Rd., Alton, Va., who died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at his home,
was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Bethel Hill Baptist
Church by the Rev. Jason Evans and the Rev. Joel Bradsher. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Born May 12, 1938, in Person County, Mr. Bowes was the son of the
late Golden C. and Jenny Vicks Bowes. His late sisters were Lessie
Bowes, Edith Bowes, Doris B. Smith, Ellen B. Hall and Mary Alice
Bowes and his late brother was Roy E. Bowes.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was the co-owner of Bowes & Bowes Inc.
He was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church, where he served
as a deacon.
He also was a member of the Alton Hunting Club.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Whiteman Bowes; two daughters, Becky
B. Grover and husband, Rick, of Waxhaw and Marie B. Trincia of Bradenton,
Fla.; a son, Gregory A. Bowes of Florida; two brothers, Jesse C.
Bowes of Roxboro and Golden C. Bowes Jr. of Alton; a sister, Margie
B. Wilburn of Brentwood, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Allyson
P. Ashby, Madison L. Ashby and Glen Trincia Jr.

Ronteisha M. Carroll
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. The funeral for Ronteisha M. Carroll,
20, of Bridgeport, Conn., who died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, was conducted
at noon Friday, Oct. 19, in the Lester Gee Funeral Home chapel.
Burial was in the Park Cemetery.
Born Jan. 8, 1987, in Bridgeport, Mrs. Carroll was the daughter
of Sharon Johnson of Bridgeport and Ronald Carroll and Debra Best
of Bridgeport, who survive. Her late great-grandmother was Lillie
Bostic; her late maternal grandfather was Luther Johnson, and her
late paternal grandfather was Theadore Carroll.
She graduated from Harding High School in 2005 and had been employed
at the Hampton Inn of Milford, Conn..
Surviving in addition to her parents are a daughter, Arieal Essence
Gnat; five sisters, Keisha Johnson, Ronda Derro, Ronee Carroll,
Ronisha Carroll and Rontavia Carroll; nine brothers, Ronald Carroll
Jr., Daurante Best, Joseph Myers, Chris Johnson, Lamont Johnson,
Ronald Best, Rasheen Best, Van Best and Rondell Carroll; a maternal
grandmother, Marion Johnson of Roxboro; and her paternal grandmother,
Bertha Carroll of Virginia.
Ned Gadson III
The funeral for Ned Gadson III, 58, of 79 Three Star Ln., who died
Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at Duke University Medical Center, was conducted
at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Shady Hill Missionary Baptist Church
by Dr. James A. Richmond. Burial was in the Peace Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Y. Gadson; 10 children, Timothy Gadson,
Onyago Gadson and wife, Trina, Ned Gadson IV and wife, Christy,
Careatha Williams and husband, Willie, all of Roxboro, Tanya Davis
and husband, Freddie, Tinesha Byrd and husband, Jax, Rosiland Gadson
and Lynette Gadson, all of Florida, Daranda Fulton and Dawn Gadson,
both of New York, brothers and sisters, Michael Yarborough and Natalie
Gadson, both of Shenectady, N.Y., Maurise Rucker of Hudson, N.Y.
Winette Rucker of Decatur, Ga., Ann Young of Lakeland, Fla., Lorenzo
Gadson, James Gadson, Karen Gadson and Frances Hunt, all of Roxboro;
16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Richard Leimbach
DURHAM The funeral for Richard (Dick) Leimbach, 80, of Durham,
who died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 following an extended illness,
will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in St. Pauls
Lutheran Church.
Born May 14, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis., Mr. Leimbach was the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard C. Leimbach.
He was retired from Eaton Corp., where he worked as a project engineer
for over 30 years, including more than 20 years at the Roxboro plant,
where he developed two patents for use in valve design.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Men's Golf Association at
Willowhaven Country Club.
He loved classical music and was an active member of the Durham
Civic Chorale Society, as well as church choirs for more than 50
years.
He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he
sang in the choir.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Leimbach; a daughter,
Lori Leimbach Eberhardt and husband, Robert, of Durham; a son, Jim
Leimbach and wife, Linda, of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Marguerite
Bichsel of Dunedin, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Sydney and Emily
Leimbach of Atlanta.

Goldie W. Lowery
The funeral for Goldie Whitt Lowery, 90, formerly of 42 S, 2nd
St., who died Monday, Oct. 22, at Person Memorial Hospital, will
be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 24, in the Strickland Funeral
Home chapel by the Rev. Herman Chambers. Burial will be in Person
Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Lowery was a native of Halifax County, Va., the daughter of
the late Nep and Mattie Sue Whitt. Her late husband of 44 years
was Bernard Forrest Lowery. Her late sisters were Hester W. Regan,
Elsie Whitt, Annie Bob Whitt and Lucille R. Whitt, and her late
brothers were Emerson L. Whitt and William C. Whitt.
A homemaker, she was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church
in South Boston, Va.
Surviving are three daughters, Lucille Frances Westbrook of Burlington,
Mattie Sue Whitfield and husband, Merritt, of Roxboro and Nettie
M. Lowery of Reidsville; three sons, Dennis C. Lowery, Emerson B.
Lowery and wife, Barbara, all of Graham and Bernard F. Lowery Jr.
and wife, Ramona, of Roxboro; two sisters, Beedie W. Jones of Chatham,
Va. and Shirley W. Conner of South Boston; two brothers, Raymond
Whitt of Riverside, Calif. and Henry Whitt of Tampa, Fla.; eight
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay Carver, Chad Clark, Kendall Duncan, Michael
Lowery, Sammy Lowery and Jimmy Westbrooks.
Kyle Duncan and Blake Lowery will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be a the funeral home for one hour before the service.

Jo Ann H. Mitchum
OXFORD A graveside funeral for Jo Ann Hall Mitchum, 73,
of 110 Ward Ave., who died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 at Durham Regional
Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 24, in the Hester
Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Hilton Moore.
Mrs. Mitchum was a native of Person County, the daughter of the
late A.I. and Leslie Garner Hall. Her late husband was Billy Joe
Mitchum, and her late son was Ricky Joe Wilson. Her late sister
was Peggy H. Lynch, and her late brother was Ronnie Hall.
She was retired from Macra-Lace Industries.
She was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Elaine W. Blackwell of Stem and Donna
W. Nobling of Knightdale; a son, Lynn Wilson of Bullock; a brother,
Woody Hall of Oxford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Priscilla O. Mize
A memorial service for Priscilla (Prissy) OBriant Mize, 64,
of 8909 Pauline Ct., Rougemont, who died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007
at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday,
Oct. 26, in Ridgecrest Baptist Church by Pastor Chris Wood.
Mrs. Mize was a native of Durham County, the daughter of the late
Thurlow Clifton and Carolyn Love Frazier OBriant. Her late
husband was Fred Mize.
She graduated from Northern High School in 1961.
She was a legal secretary in Durham for many years and retired
from Orange County as a deputy register of deeds in 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Taffy Baker Jones and husband, Jimmy,
of Rougemont; two sons, Doug Baker and wife, Cindy, and Ron Baker,
all of Durham; a brother, Larry C. OBriant of Vass; and three
grandchildren, Cody Jones, Trent Baker and Maggie Baker.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.

Lawrence B. Wolfe
SMITHFIELD The funeral for Lawrence Beam Wolfe, 65 of East
Johnston St., Smithfield, who died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, was
conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Brooks & White
Funeral Home chapel in Roxboro by the Rev. Danny Solomon. Burial
was in the Berrys Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mr. Wolfe was the son of the late Lawrence
Watkins and Ruby Oliver Wolfe. His late wife was Betty Cobb Wolfe.
He was retired from Precision Walls of Raleigh after 17 years of
service.
Surviving are two daughters, Laura Wolfe of Garner and Crystal
Wolfe Solomon of Hurdle Mills; six brothers, Gary Wolfe of Smithfield,
Bruce Wolfe of Greensboro, Larry Wolfe of Clayton, Billy Wolfe of
Clio, Mich., Bobby Wolfe of Hurdle Mills and Timmy Wolfe of Lillington;
four sisters, Marie Wall of Micro, Peggy Blanton of Selma, Patricia
Wolfe of Smithfield and Debbie Grice of Louisburg; and four grandchildren,
Amber Wolfe, Cassidy Solomon, Cameron Solomon and Trey Hood.
Pallbearers were Tim Nutt, George Stewart, Ken Smith, Jimmy Ashe,
Kenneth Wolfe and Larry James.
