Dewey E. Brady
The funeral for Dewey Edward Brady, 87, of 1262 Frank Whitfield
Rd., Hurdle Mills, who died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at Roxboro
Nursing Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 27, in the
Clements Funeral Home chapel in Durham by the Rev. Brooks Gale.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brady was a native of Durham County, the son of the late George
Dewey and Ethel Mae Adams Haswell. His late wife of 65 years was
Dorothy Turlington Brady.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
One of the original owners of Garland Woodcraft, he was a master
craftsman in architectural millwork.
He was a former Scoutmaster and a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as Sunday
school superintendent and a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby Brady and wife, Sandra, of Hurdle
Mills and Jody Brady and wife, Candace, of Durham; two daughters,
Betty Veasey and husband, Jimmy, and Brenda Barbee and husband,
Ray, all of Durham; a brother, Jimmy Brady of Illinois; nine grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Doug Riley, Rob Brady, Dillon White, Lee Gerling,
Marc Veasey and Garland Salmon.
Visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour before the
service.
Lottie G. Clay
RALEIGH A memorial service for Lottie Love Grinstead Clay,
78 of 4016 Huckleberry Dr., Raleigh, who died Thursday, Oct. 25,
2007 at her home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 27, in
Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Robertson.
Mrs. Clay was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
Albert and Viola Allison Grinstead. Her late husband was Russell
T. Clay.
She was a former employee of Belk-Leggett in Roxboro and Raleigh.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Clay of Raleigh and Russ Clay of
Leland; a brother, Lawrence Grinstead of Roxboro; five sisters,
Esther Knott, Billie West, Lillian McKee, Evelyn Warren and Macklin
Carr, all of Roxboro; and a grandchild, Brittany Jackson.
Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service.

Joan S. Davis
Joan Snow Davis, 65, of 252 Providence Rd., died Friday, Oct. 26,
2007 at Duke University Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time.
Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Willie and Lessie Snow.
She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member
of North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, David Davis; three daughters, Cheryle
Shaffer of Philadelphia, Pa., Mitzi Fonda of Winston-Salem and Trina
Vaughn of Roxboro; a son David Davis Jr. of Roxboro; a brother,
Larry Snow of Timberlake; two sisters, Linda Lacks of South Boston,
Va. and Carolyn Batten of Meadows of Dan, Va.; and six grandchildren,
Morgan Shaffer, Grey Shaffer, Charlotte Fonda, Christina Fonda,
Matthew Vaughn and Elizabeth Vaughn.

Sharon A. Henson
HARTSVILLE, S.C. The funeral for Sharon Alford Henson, 48,
of Hartsville, S.C. ,who died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, will be
conducted at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 27, in the Norton Funeral Home chapel
in Hartsville by the Rev. Michael Blankenship. Burial will be in
the Westview Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Henson was a native of Hartsville, the daughter of Etha Mae
Huggins Alford of Hartsville, who survives, and the late Wardy B.
Alford.
She was employed with Darlington County Roads & Bridges.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Erica Chapman
and husband, Mark, and Tori Matthews, all of Hartsville; two sisters,
Bobbie Huggins of Hartsville and Janice Clayton of Roxboro; and
a grandchild, Elizabeth Chapman of Florence, S.C.

Lisa C. Newby
HALIFAX, Va. The funeral for Lisa Culley Newby, 38, of Chatham
Road, Halifax , Va., who died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at Duke University
Medical Center, was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in Bethel
Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Rudman. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Born on April 3, 1969 in Halifax County, Va., Mrs. Newby was the
daughter of Larry James and Diana Phillips Culley of South Boston,
Va., who survive. Her late twin sister was Lori Anne Culley.
She was an emergency room nurse at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Charles Allen
Newby; a daughter, Haley A. Newby of Halifax; a son, Charles A.
Newby Jr. of Halifax; and a sister, Lonie Hite of Buffalo Junction,
Va.

Betty A. Owen
DURHAM A graveside funeral for Betty Ann Owen, 72, of Durham,
who died on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday,
Oct. 26, in the Oak Grove Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Ed Denton.
Mrs. Owen was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
McManning (Doc) and Clara Ford Jacobs. Her late brothers were Bobby
Jacobs and Alfred Jacobs and her late sister was Ella Mae Donahue.
She was a homemaker and a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce A. Owen; three sons, Bruce A.
Owen Jr. of the home, Wayne Shotwell of New Bern and Michael Shotwell
of Roxboro; two daughters, Sandra O. Post of Graham and Pam Moste
Moore of Durham; a step-daughter, Joanie Currin of Oxford; a brother,
Boyd Jacobs of Durham; a sister, Iris Spence of Durham; and two
grandchildren, Laura Ray Satterfield and Mitchell Ray Moste.

Clinton C. Watson
GRAHAM The funeral for Clinton Columbus Watson, 86, of 2380
Olde Spring Ct., Graham, and formerly of N. Graham Hopedale Road,
Burlington, who died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, will be conducted
at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Brooks & White Funeral
Home chapel by the Rev. Bruce A. Brown. Burial will be in the Cooper
Cemetery.
Born in Caswell County, Mr. Watson was the son of the late Luther
Garland and Ida Frances Slaughter Watson. His late siblings were
William A. Watson, Luther G. Watson Jr., Glenna W. Pulliam, Gladys
W. Mitchell and Gertie Elaine Watson.
He retired from Lucent Technologies in 1984, after 33 years of
service.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II in
the South Pacific Theater.
He was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church, Burlington.
Surviving are his wife, Sadie Murray Watson; a son, Howard R. Watson
of Sumter, S.C.; a daughter, Bonnie W. Parrish of Graham; three
grandchildren, Lewis Edward Parrish Jr., Jill Parrish Middleton
and Danielle Reed Rickey; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 27, at the
funeral home.
