Betty A. Council

DURHAM — The funeral for Betty Lou Ammons Council, 75, of Durham, who died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 at Duke University Medical Center following an extended illness, was conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, in Carr United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cheryl Lawrence and the Rev. Brian Wingo. Burial was in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 15, 1932, in Durham County, Mrs. Council was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Elsie E. Jenkins Ammons. Her late sister was Eloise A. Clark.

She was retired from Duke Medical Center after 37 years of service.

She was a member of Carr United Methodist Church and the Nell-Morris Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her husband of 45 years, James P. Council; a son, Robert (Bobby) Cole and wife, Mariana, of Durham; two daughters, Dana Rappleyea and husband, Juney, of Durham and Amy Barbee and husband, Brett, of Timberlake; six grandchildren: Bob, Mike, Anna Maria Cole, Scott Rappleyea and Lindsey Williams, and Christian Barbee.

Willis G. Daniel

A memorial service for Willis George (Bill) Daniel, 45, of Roxboro, who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Roxboro Baptist Church by Dr. DuPre Sanders.

Born in Surry County, Mr. Daniel was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Elliott Daniel, of Roxboro, who survive.

He was employed with Wake Supply and was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Cheryl Clayton Daniel; three children, W. George Daniel Jr., Jim Daniel and Jane Daniel, all of the home; a brother, Robert E. (Eddy) Daniel Jr. of Hickory; and two sisters, Ann Napoles of Roxboro and Nancy Daniel of Elon College.

Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.

J.B. Day Jr.

A memorial service for J.B. Day Jr., 59, of 1900 N. Main St., who died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Ca-Vel Baptist Church by the Rev. Jon Glass and the Rev. Buddy Hall.

Mr. Day was a native of Person County, the son of the late John Berlie and Virginia Yarborough Day.

He was an avid fisherman and had worked for several years in Murrells Inlet, S.C.

He was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Harry Jane Day Talley of Roxboro and Patsy Lou Williams of Walnut Cove.

Robert W. Fuller Jr.

A graveside funeral for Robert Warner Fuller Jr., 76, of U.S. 158E, Leasburg, who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at Select Specialty Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 10, in the Leasburg Community Cemetery by the Rev. Laura Stern and the Rev. Tony Collier.

Born in Caswell County, Mr. Fuller was the son of the late Robert Warner Fuller and Maggie Yarborough Fuller Ives. His late wife was Mary Owen Newman Fuller. His late brother was John Fuller.

He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation after 42 years of service.

He was a member of Leasburg United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Hannah Fuller of Yanceyville; two brothers, Bill Fuller of Providence and Clyde Fuller of Anderson; two sisters, Mary Meeler of Leasburg and Allie Cooper of Providence.

Mabel S. Long

A graveside funeral for Mabel Suitt Long, 89, formerly of Red Mountain Rd., Rougemont, who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at the Roxboro Nursing Center, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 10, in the Red Mountain Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Dave Pryor.

Born in Durham County, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Sallie Anne Poole Suitt. Her late husband was Moses (Mose) William Long.

She was a homemaker and a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are a niece, Katie Bowen, and four other nieces and seven nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Red Mountain Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 103, Rougemont, NC 27572.

James W. Moore

The funeral for James William (Billy) Moore, 84, formerly of the Canterberry House and 314 Dee Long Rd., who died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at the Roxboro Nursing Center, was conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Edgar DeJesus. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Moore was son of the late Stephen B. and Annie Howard Moore. His late brothers were Howard H. Moore and Steve G. Moore and his late sister was Helen Moore Westbrooks.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Earl Moore and Cleve Moore, both of Roxboro.

Pallbearers were Robert Moore, Stephen Moore, Ray Moore, Richard Moore, Michael Moore, Randy Moore, Charles Westbrooks and Malcolm Wooten.

Bobby L. Parrish

The funeral for Bobby L. Parrish, 77, of Rougemont, who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Red Mountain Baptist Church by the Rev. David Pryor and the Rev. Joe Glenn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Parrish was a native of Durham County, the son of the late Fannie Mae Parrish and Walter Melvin Parrish. His late son was William Marshall Glasscock and his late brother was Wade C. Parrish.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of Red Mountain Baptist Church and the senior adult class and also a member of the GTE Union.

He was also a member of Durham Golden Gloves Boxing.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby L. Parrish; a daughter, Dorinda Glasscock Laughinghouse and husband, Rodney, of Rougemont; a son, Norman F. (Butch) Glasscock and wife, Barbara, of Cookeville Tenn.; a brother, Billy Melvin Parrish; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 10, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Lottie W. Sydnor

The funeral for Lottie Whitt Sydnor, 95, who died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at The Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston, Va., will be conducted at noon today, Nov. 10, in Elijah Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Dorwin L. Howard and Dr. Alfred M. Faulkner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sydnor was a member of Elijah Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Sam L. Whitt and Henry O. Whitt, both of Roxboro.

Mary O. Wilkins

SANFORD — The funeral for Mary Helen Oakley Wilkins, 97, of Sanford, who died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 at the Liberty Commons of Lee County, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church by Dr. Del Parkerson. Burial will be in the Lee Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Wilkins was a native of Roxboro, born Jan. 2, 1910 in Person County, the daughter of the late Calvin Moses and Mary Ella Harris Oakley. Her late husband of 59 years was Percy T. Wilkins, and her late son was P. T. Wilkins Jr. Her late sisters were Ruth Oakley Whitfield and Mattie Oakley Bradsher. Her late brothers were Bedford Oakley, Clarance Oakley, Clyde Oakley, Garland Oakley, Gilbert Oakley, Frank Oakley and Riley Oakley.

She was a member of several home demonstration clubs and worked with Meals on Wheels for many years.

She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Sanford, the Sunday school class and Women’s Missionary Union.

Surviving are two daughters Linda W. McNeill of Sanford and Mary Juanita W. Bailes and husband CV of Roxboro; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be in the church parlor for one hour before the service.
