Edmond M. Bass
DURHAM The funeral for Edmond Monroe Bass, 71, of 416 Denton
St., who died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at Durham Regional Hospital,
will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 17, in Community Baptist
Church.
Mr. Bass was born in 1936 in Rougemont.
He was retired after having served 30 years as an assistant manager
from the Big Star food chain and 10 years with Harris Teeter.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Dovie Barbee Bass; three daughters,
Lynn Bass Hawkins and husband, Marcus, of Morrisville, Sandy Bass
Chambers and husband, Junius (J), of Raleigh and Lorie Donna Bass
of Raleigh; three brothers, Julius Bass and Eugene Bass, both of
Greensboro and Larry Bass of Raleigh; three sisters, Glovenuia Thomas
of Sparkhill, N.Y., Eunice Gist of Charlotte and Regina Maultsby
of Rougemont; and two grandchildren, Alison and Justin Chambers.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.
Edna P. Carr
The funeral for Edna Poole Carr, 88, formerly of 112 Harold Gill
Rd., who died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at Maria Parham Healthcare in
Henderson, was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Trinity
United Methodist Church by the Rev. Martin Hall. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Carr was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
Hillman and Lizzy Poole West. Her late husband of 43 years was Earlie
Emory Carr. Her late daughters were Ivy Lou Poole, Patsy Poole and
Peggy Rudd, and her late sons were James Poole and William (Bill)
Poole. Her late sister was Drucilla Walker and her late brothers
were John Merritt, Joe B. West and Kenneth West.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda P. Snead and husband, Sammy, of
Roxboro; three sons, Herbert Poole and wife, Liz, of Mt. Jackson,
Va., Wayne Poole and Danny Poole, both of Roxboro; and a sister,
Bettie Pearl Humphries of Roxboro; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren
and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bradley Brann, Harold Denny, Earl Humphries, Jason
Poole, Steve Poole and Stanley Reaves.
Dean A. Evans
The funeral for Dean Albert Evans, 75, of 8021 Durham Rd., Timberlake,
who died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 at the Roxboro Nursing Center, was
conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, in the Brooks & White
Funeral Home chapel by Elder David Minter and Elder Jimmy Gray.
Burial was in the Surl Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Evans was a native of Person County, the son of the late Samuel
Lucius and Anzolette Ellis Evans. His late brothers were Stephen
Evans, Monzell Evans and Donald Evans and his late sister was Mary
Evans Rogers.
He was retired from Liggett & Myers after 30 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.
He attended both Surl Primitive Baptist Church and Helena Primitive
Baptist Church, where he sang in both choirs.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Parker Evans; and two sister-in-laws,
Daisy Evans of Roxboro and Mildred Evans of Tarboro.
Pallbearers were Brent Talley, David Duke, Randall Carver, Terry
Poole, John Menter, Daniel Patterson, Andy Gates and Stephen Ashley.

Kay M. Fisher
DURHAM The funeral for Kay Frances Markham Fisher, 73, of
3726 Knollwood Dr., who died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 17, in Horton Road Church of God by the Rev.
Joseph Leonard. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Fisher was a native of Durham County, the daughter of the
late James Roland and Carmen Reaves Markham Andrews.
She was retired from Duke Medical Center and was a member of Horton
Road Church of God.
Surviving are her husband, William H. Fisher Jr.; two daughters,
Patsy E. Martin and husband, Mick, of Efland and Linda E. Champion
of Goldsboro; three sisters, Hilda Stox of Roxboro, Brenda Rasberry
of Mebane and Dorothy Jenkins of Rocky Mount; a brother, Charles
Andrews of Hillsborough; three grandchildren, Michelle Stoops, Christopher
Champion and Luke Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Harris
and Nathan Harris.
Arrangements are by Clements Funeral Home of Durham.
Lois T. Long
VIRGILINA, Va. The funeral for Lois Tuck Long, 98, of Virgilina,
Va., who died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at the Roxboro Nursing Center,
will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in Union Christian
Church in Virgilina by the Rev. Bobby Whitfield. Burial will be
in the Virgilina Cemetery.
Mrs. Long was born Dec. 4, 1908, in Halifax County, Va., the daughter
of the late W.W. and Ella Overby Tuck. Her late husband was S. Reams
Long. Her late sisters were Clara Tuck Royster, Nettie Tuck Parkerson
and Pearl Tuck, and her late brothers were Emmett, William, Elvin
and Lawrence Tuck.
She was a postmistress, retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
She was a member of the Union Christian Church.
She was a former member of the Virgilina Town Council, the Virgilina
Womans Club, Chapter 80 of the Order of the Eastern Star,
Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy
and the National League of Postmasters.
Surviving are a daughter, Lois Long Stockard and husband, Dr. Robert
Stockard, of Elon; two granddaughters, Catherine Anderson of Burlington
and Sue Hodge of Charlotte; two great-granddaughters, Jenny Hodge
and Caroline Anderson; and two great-grandsons, Clay Hodge and Will
Anderson.?
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.

Howard W. Walters
The funeral for Howard Willis Walters, 66, of 1450 Kelly Brewer
Rd., Leasburg, who died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at the UNC Hospitals
in Chapel Hill, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 17, in the
Leasburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Laura Stern. Masonic
graveside rites will be in the Leasburg Community Cemetery.
Mr. Walters was a native of Danville, Va., the son of Lelia Wilson
Killian of Fayetteville, who survives, and the late Leon Walters.
He was retired from the UNC Power Co. in Chapel Hill after 17 years
of service.
He was a retired United States Navy veteran of 20 years, having
served during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Leasburg United Methodist Church.
He was a Mason with the Wake Forest Lodge No. 282. He also enjoyed
riding his motorcycle for Relay for Life and attending bike Rallies
in Daytona, Fal. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Judy Jestes Walters;
two sons, Howard Walters Jr. of Durham and Allan Walters of Leasburg;
a step-son, Kevin Raynor of Prospect Hill; a sister, Gypsy Hunt
of Fayetteville; and a grandchild.
Masons will be pallbearers.

James M. Williams
MORRISVILLE The funeral for James Mason Williams, 47, of
Morrisville, who died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, was conducted at 2
p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the Hudson Funeral Home chapel by the Rev.
Danny Glover.
Mr. Williams was a native of Durham, the son of Virginia P. Williams
of Durham, who survives.
He was an electrician and a Baptist.
He served in the N.C. National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Kerr Williams; a daughter, Amber
Marie Williams of Henderson; two sons, Jimmy Brown of Morrisville
and James Ronald Brown II and wife, Wendy, of Franklinton; two brothers,
Rick Williams of Roxboro and Ray Brown of Arlington; and a sister,
Pam King of Butner.
