Glenda H. Bowes
The funeral for Glenda Hudson Bowes, 63, of 4381 Halifax Rd., who
died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at her home, will be conducted at 2
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy
Robertson and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in the Person
Memorial Cemetery
Born in Halifax County, Va., Mrs. Bowes was the daughter of Farris
Comer Hudson of South Boston, Va., who survives, and the late Woodrow
H. Hudson. Her late brother was Lester Stover Hudson, and her late
sister was George Anna Wilborn.
She was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. after 37 years
of service.
She was a Baptist.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 43 years,
F.T. Bowes; her children and their spouses, Donald Bowes, Shelbie
and Terry Morris, Melinda and Tommie Rice, Brian Bowes and Jayme
Wyatt, all of Roxboro; a brother, Gerald Bryant Hudson of Halifax;
four sisters, Irma Jean Wilborn of Merritt Island, Fla., Myrna Loy
West of Clarksville, Va., Lottie Page Hudson of Roxboro and Bonnie
Lou Wilson of Virgilina, Va.; six grandchildren, Autumn Bowes, Carsen
Bowes, Nathan Morris, Kayla Rice, Preston Bowes and Aiden Bowes.
Pallbearers will be W.J. Wilborn, Jerry Wilborn, Heath Wilson,
Terry Hudson, Tim Bowes and Neal Bowes.
T.D. Wilborn, Paul Hudson, Les Hudson and Clyde Hudson will be
honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 1, at Brooks
& White Funeral Home.

Morris Charnekar
PORTLAND, Ore. Morris Charnekar, 92, of Portland, Ore. and
Hammond, Ind., died Friday, Nov. 23 in Portland. No service is planned.
Mr. Charnekars late wife was Minnie Charnekar.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
He enjoyed music, dancing and bowling.
Surviving are three daughters, Anita C. Ehresmann and husband,
Paul, of Roxboro, Karla Benson and husband, Barry, of Portland and
Barbara Reinhardt, of Downingtown, Pa.; a son, Marc Charnekar of
St. Paul, Minn.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Reinhardt and
Molly Benson.
Joyce L. Guill
BLAIRS, Va. The funeral for Joyce Lovelace Guill, 65, of
168 Lawless Creek Rd., Blairs, Va., who died Wednesday, Nov. 28,
2007 at Danville Regional Medical Center following an extended illness,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 1, in the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover
chapel by the Rev. Norma Walters. Burial will be in the Highland
Burial Park.
Born Sept. 24, 1942, in Danville, Va., Mrs. Guill was the daughter
of the late William Henry and Sallie Rudd Lovelace. Her late sister
was Mary Frances Ferrell.
She had lived in the Blairs community for the past 30 years. Prior
to retirement, she had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Danville
Regional Medical Center for over 20 years.
She enjoyed crocheting, and spent many hours playing computer games
with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Blairs Baptist Church and served for many
years with the ladies auxiliary of Blairs Fire & Rescue.
Surviving are her husband, Richard N. Guill; two daughters, Cheryl
Guill of the home and Paige Horton and husband, Anthony, of Hurdle
Mills; a son, Richie Guill and wife, Debbie, of Dry Fork; a brother,
Bill Lovelace of Danville; a sister, Marion Skinner of Bassett,
Va.; and five grandchildren, Hunter Guill, Andrew Guill, Kelsey
Guill, Anderson Horton and Alora Horton.

Cassie D. Hargis
BURLINGTON The funeral for Cassie Mae Dunn Hargis, 92, of
4035 Powell Rd., Burlington, who died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at
the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, will
be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the Brooks & White
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Bob Stephenson and the Rev. Curtis
Oakley. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Hargis was the daughter of the late
Robert Jackson and Lila Maude Davis Dunn. Her late husband was Richard
Thomas Hargis. Her late siblings were Ralph Parrott, James Parrott,
Archie Parrott, George Parrott, Callie Cross, Lillian Hubbard and
Bessie Suitt.
She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Riverside Baptist
Church in Graham.
Surviving are a daughter, Alice Hargis Pruitt and husband, Herman,
of Burlington; a son, James Hugh Hargis of Rossville, Ga.; a half-sister,
Garnell Watkins of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, Jeff Davis,
Chris Hill, Tara Martin, Tina Hargis, Lisa Nichols, Kyle Hargis,
Michael Hargis, and Ricky Pruitt; seven great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Davis, Joshua Martin, David Martin,
Sean Kimrey, Jimmy Gooch, Michael Hargis and Tommy Hargis.
Visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour before the
service and at other times at the home, 4035 Powell Rd., Burlington.

Delma C. Knott
The funeral for Delma Mae Cozart Knott, 86, of 138 Patterson Dr.,
who died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Durham Regional Hospital,
was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Somerset Baptist Church
by Pastor Troy Rust and the Rev. Bob Baynard. Burial was in Person
Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Person County on July 8, 1921, Mrs. Knott was the daughter
of the late Jake and Annie Morris Cozart.
She was retired from Loxcreen and was a member of Somerset Baptist
Church.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil Knott; two children, Randy Knott
and wife, Loretta, of Mechanicsville, Va. and Mitzi Miller and husband,
Joey, of Timberlake; a brother, Patrick Cozart of Roxboro; two sisters,
Pearlie C. Carver of Roxboro and Patricia C. Kimball of Henderson;
four grandchildren, Meredith Knott, Oscar Knott, Oliver Knott and
Abby Faulkner; and a great-grandchild, Hudson Faulkner.
Pallbearers were Oliver Knott, Oscar Knott, Chris Faulkner, Trent
Knott, Ronnie Chandler, Yogi Blalock, Keith Cozart and Joey Cozart.
David Newell was an honorary pallbearer.

George D. Nelson
A graveside funeral for George Daniel Nelson, 80, of 1150 Shelton
Rd., who died Friday, Dec. 30, 2007 at Durham Regional Hospital,
will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in Person Memorial Cemetery
by the Rev. Billy Edwards.
Mrs. Nelson was a native of Halifax County, Va., the son of the
late Monroe and Mandy Stone Nelson.
He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation after
30 years of service and later retired from the City of Roxboro after
20 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Ola Sue Whitt Nelson; a son, Tony Nelson
of the home; three brothers, Jesse Nelson and Emmit Nelson, both
of Milton and Johnny Nelson of South Boston, Va.; three sisters,
Odel Nelson and Mary Presley, both of Milton and Nellie Nelson of
Roxboro; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Whitt, Dennis Blis, Larry Graham, Earl
Vaughan, Johnnie Montague, Ben Whitt, and Chuck Overby.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at
the home.

Mary W. Nelson
The funeral for Mary Walker Nelson, 98, who died Thursday, Nov.
29, 2007 at Person Memorial Hospital following an extended illness,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Lawson Chapel Baptist
Church by the Rev. Allandus Wright and Dr. Langston D. Logan. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of Lawson Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are five sisters, Pearl W. Thornton and Katie W. Brooks,
both of Baltimore, Md., Margania W. Britt of New Bern, Maude W.
Jeffers and Flossie W. Bumpass, both of Roxboro; and a brother,
James E. Walker of Annapolis, Md.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 1, at Cunningham
& Nelson Funeral Home.
Allen Vincent Ross
REIDSVILLE The funeral for Allen Vincent Ross, 43, of 228
Trails End Rd., who died Monday Nov. 26 at Annie Penn Hospital,
was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday Nov. 29, in the Citty Funeral
Home chapel. Burial was in the Evergreen Memory Gardens.??
A native of Reidsville, Mr. Ross was the son of Betty Johnson Ross
Horton of Hurdle Mills, who survives, and the late Robert Abner
Ross. His late paternal grandparents were Robert Irvin and Connie
McKinney Ross and his late maternal grandparents were Hessie Loftis
Barber and Weldon A. Johnson.
He was a farmer, and had attended New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
??Surviving are his wife, Susan Wilson Ross; a son, Eric Ross of
the home; a daughter, Brooke Ross of the home; ??his step-father,
Harold Horton of Hurdle Mills; three sisters; Gina R. Morton of
Oxford, Karen R. Wheby of McLeansville and Julianne R. Hall of Greensboro?.
Pridmore Thomas
Pridmore Thomas, 87, formerly of 511 W. Gordon St., died Wednesday,
November 28, 2007, at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Durham County,
Mr. Thomas was the son of the late George Washington and Rossie
Pridmore Thomas and husband of the late Jessie VanHook Thomas. Mr.
Thomas graduated from Roxboro High School and attended Wake Forest
College. Mr. Thomas retired from Bullock Lumber Company and was
a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church. He served in
the US Army during WWII.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his daughter, LeeVan Thomas Hughes and
husband Donald, of Sophia; one brother, Col. Ned Thomas, Ret., of
Great-Falls, VA; two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 2PM Saturday, December 1, at the
Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. T.R. Miller. The family will
receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service from 1:30-2PM
at the Brooks & White Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Long Memorial United Methodist Church
Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 310, Roxboro, NC, 27573.
The family would like to express their appreciation and love to
all of the staff at Person Memorial Hospital, to Dr. William Olds,
and especially to the Extended Care Unit for the many years of kindness,
